I was looking on the Body Candy site and they nose rings that they call twister, bone and L shaped. What is the difference? What kind do you prefer?

I haven't worn a ring in my nose for about five years but I still could get one in if I wanted to. I would NEVER buy body jewelry from an internet site. It's best to go down to a reputable piercing shop and buy it.

I find the twister hard to get in and out, although some people don't. I use a bone and like it, but now it's kind of stuck in there. The hole closed up enough that the ball won't fit through to change it. If I ever decide (or have to) take it out, I'll have to clip the end off. I've never used an L shape.

Do nose rings make you nose itch? How do you overcome that feeling of having a booger in your nose?

I'm not sure but my daughter says to use natural stuff, bones, stone, wood, instead of plastics.
She has lots of piercings. I can ask her later about what the differences are later if no one else has answered.

My nose doesn't itch. And it doesn't feel like a booger.

Why would it matter? You'd sterilize it before putting it in, wouldn't you? I would.

I, too, wear a bone, and I like them best. Your's sounds like a friend of mine's....she can't get it out either! She'll just clip the rhinestone tip off when she ever takes it out or changes it. The studs are so thin and delicate, it should snip right off.

I buy mine at WalMart. The sterling silver ones with different colored stones, etc. are 3 pair for 5 bucks. I've tried the bend to fit's and hate them! They hurt when I would change them, and when you bend them once its in, (I think it weakens them) they end up breaking. jmo!

Never, ever, in a million years!! Blast me all you want, I think they are disgusting!! Call me close minded, whatever, but I just can't imagine looking in a mirror, and saying "You know, I think I would look alot better if I had a piercing on my face". Seriously, in the job market, social standing , whatever, where in the hell do you think this will get you???

It didn't "get" me anywhere. Then again, it didn't stop me from anything either. For your information, I have a very good professional job and my social standing is quite acceptable.

I've purchased several belly rings from Body Candy because of their great variety and prices. I've sterilized them before putting them in and never had any problems.

We buy most of our jewelry from Body Art Forms. I have all stainless steel but one of my DD's and her husband wear glass and silicone plugs. I have my septum pierced and it's never felt like a booger :-)

I have extensive tattoos and numerous piercings (I shave my head, too). I work in a retail clothing store (nope, not Hot Topic - a euoropean-owned store with everything from kids clothing to business suits) - the way I look has never been an issue and has not held me back from getting promotions, raises, etc. I get asked lots of questions and get lots of compliments (from customers) but that's it. I am also an ordained minister and I conduct weddings. Again, the way I look has never been an issue - no one has ever mentioned it at a wedding other than to compliment me on my tattoos.

I have to ask: are you a woman that shaves her head?
I've always been intrigued by women who can pull off bald.
My oldest sister went GI Jane and gets buzz cut---I just can't get my nerve up to do it myself.

(oh and if your a man who's bald---I love bald men!)

Yes, I'm a woman who shaves my head (every Friday, like clockwork ;-) I get a lot of compliments from other women on the shaved head and plenty of wistfull "wish I could do that"'s. The only downside is that I have to wear a hat in the sun or my scalp gets sunburned and there is no way to hide those few "light reflective hairs" (that's what my 11 yr old DS calls white hair :-)

I had my septum pierced. That is the skin between your nostrils. I had a 'bullring' in there. I chose to have that piercing instead of the more traditional side of the nostril piercing because if I ever wanted to remove it, NO ONE would ever see the hole. Often, I wish I'd had the traditiona side of the nostril diamond stud, but at the same time, i'd glad I didn't get that done. I don't wear my ring anymore, it's been about 3 years now, but I can still get a ring in there if I want.

The quality and how it will stand up to the things your body is trying to do to expel it. When you have a "sealed" or "closed" piercing like the earlobe or bellybutton it's one thing but in your tongue, nose, private area and other viscous areas the body is always trying to repel the foreign object and whether you had something in there or not your body is constantly secreting fluids that break down the metal and the threads on the posts,

And the threads should be internally threaded especially if it's a fresh piercing.

I have seen everything from inconvenience of an improperly fitted piece to ugly infections to places where the skin grew over the jewelry.

Barbell Body Jewelry - Internal vs. External Threads

quote from above article

But it's More Expensive!
Internally threaded body jewelry does cost more, because it’s more difficult to manufacture. Novelty stores and mall shops can sell body jewelry for less because the quality is much lower, and this type of jewelry should never be used in an unhealed piercing. High quality jewelry from reputable shops (physical or online) will cost you much less in regards to your health, which shouldn’t have a price tag anyway!

I agree that you should be carefull not to put junk in a piercing, whether it's a barbell bought at a novelty shop or a card of regular earrings bought from an accessory store like Claire's or the Icing. Plenty of people with "just" pierced earlobes find themselves experiencing problems with jewelry and they have to do some experimenting to find the metal/material that works best with their body. When I had "regular" pierced lobes I could only tolerate nickel-free earrings and only for a few hours before they started itching. Now I have stainless steele in all of my piercings, I never remove them (except for having an MRI, though I've had surgery with everything in :-) and I have no problems. It helps that my son-in-law is a tattoo artist and piercer so he can autoclave everything before we put in new jewelry.
