What kind of vacuum do you own?

I need a new vacuum. I'm considering a Dyson Animal or Asthma & Allergy. Are they worth the money?
What kind do you have and do you love it?
thanks!

I have a Hoover Windbag or something like that. It does the job, but the filters are ridiculously expensive. ($40.00)

That's what I have, the Hoover Windtunnel I think it's called. I've had it about 8 years and it has done a good job but the filter needs changed alot and like you said they are expensive.
I would love one with a washable filter.

Dyson Animal

I have the Dyson Animal...been using it for about 2 yrs, and I love it
It really gets the dog hair and dander up well....picks up larger dirt, crumbs, etc well too. The canister is super easy to empty with a trigger and there are no filters to replace (there is one foam filter on the side that is washable, the main filter in the center I have my DH blow out with an air compressor to get it clean).

Plenty of cord length, the attachment hose is long enough for me to do my stairs without dragging the vacuum with me at all. It came with several attachments, as well as a carpet cleaning attachment that is used with a powdery cleaner (I havent used the attachment nor the cleaner that came with it).

I use my vacuum every other day, I have two dogs (one is a sheltie, quite long hair), and it has never given me any trouble at all.

I did get a really good deal on it online at Target.com (on sale, plus I got a $50 Target giftcard with the purchase), so shop around in B&M stores, plus online, to find a great deal!

HTH!
Joy

I have a Kenmore 2 yrs old. Spent 400 on it but should have spent more and gotten the Electrolux. This thing doesn't hold a candle to my old (25yrs) electrolux.

Dyson Animal and I love it. I have been using it for 5 years and I like it as much now as I did when I first got it. Have a Hoover windtunnel, too. It does a great job but emptying it and banging out the filter are a pain in the butt so I really only use the Dyson.

I just have the "regular" yellow Dyson which I got about six years ago on clearance at Home Depot. I absolutely love it! I would get another one in a heartbeat! I have a golden retriever and it's great for picking up hair. When this one goes, I'm going to get the "animal" model. ~Lisa

We have the purple Dyson Animal that we got at Best Buy when someone returned it after a weekend. Has worked great for 3+ years and we got a wonderful discount on it. It gets up so much pet hair and dirt. It's amazing to see all of that dirt.VERY easy to empty the canister. I would buy another. I run it on my tile kitchen floors for quick clean ups instead of sweeping.

The cheapest I've seen online is at vacuumdirect.com $445 plus free ship
Anyone purchase from them before? any problems? any coupon codes?

thanks for all your replies!

My daughter has the purple Dyson (not sure what model that is) that she got for Christmas several years ago. She was hosting our family Christmas that year so she had thoroughly cleaned her house already. After she opened the sweeper she was running around the house like some nut, sweeping, sweeping, sweeping and squeeling "just look at all the dirt I'm getting up. And I just got done sweeping with the old sweeper". She was like a kid in a candy store. And she still loves it yet today. I would love to replace my Kirby with one.

We just bought the DYSON ball and love it!! I can't believe how much my other vacuum was missing. I can really see a difference in my carpets. My Dyson also does bare floors too. Plus with the ball, it turns in all the different ways. I actually don't mind vacuuming now.

I would highly recommend getting a Dyson. Sears had them on sale last week. Plus I found a $5.00 off coupon if you order online and pick up at the store (which is what we did).

We have the yellow Dyson and love it. If it ever fails or we buy another, it will be a Dyson. We've had ours maybe 7 years and it's still perfect. We bought the attachment (it's the flat head) to do hardwood. It's great. I use it without the attachment on most of our hardwoods once a week and then use the attachment when I need to get under things the vacuum won't.

I bought ours when someone had it on sale and then Bed Bath and Beyond price matched and then let me use my 20% off coupon. I have purchased for for my mom at Kohls with the extra 30% off coupons they regularly have.

Dyson "full kit" , it is an animal with extra attachments.
I've had it about 5 years and it's very easy to use (it replaced a Kirby), & cleans very well. I go over our tile floors to grab the stray cat fur-dust-bunnies too. I bought it on ebay for around $400, it was the best price I could find at the time.

I would love one with a washable filter.
I wash mine. I take it outside and shake out as must dust as I can into a paper bag. I tap it on the driveway to shake out as much as I can. Then I bring it inside and wash it out in the laundry sink. Probably not as good as a new one, but a lot cheaper!

I use a ShopVac on my laminate floors. It picks up everything from dust to pet hair to liquid. I can do cobwebs, corners, molding, etc. There is no belt which is why we originally bought it several years ago. Our carpet was so old it had loose threads and the belt would break every single time I vacuumed.
It was around $30 at Fred Meyer's on sale several years ago and it's the smallest one.

I have a Kirby and a Dyson. Haven't really used the Kirby since getting the Dyson, I love how easy it is to use the wand (never used that on the Kirby since it requires taking it apart and putting the hose on). I have a whole box full of Kirby attachments in the closet that I've never used.

Yes I got it ! and love it!
I ended up getting the DC25 ball All Floor yellow vac from vacuum-direct.com. They seemed to have the best deal. It was $409.99 with free shipping and no sales tax. I ordered it Wed. afternoon and it was at my door Friday morning.
Thanks for all the advice!
I almost enjoy running the sweeper now. It works great on the hardwood floors too!

Sounds like you got a great deal on it! Glad you are enjoying it. I was going to say, I also like the fact that you can take this baby apart to clean it thoroughly. Mine has lasted me about six years so far. Enjoy it. ~Lisa

We've gone through 4 or 5 vacs in our 30 years of marriage. I've never found one I really like. We now have a Dyson and it is better than anything we have had in the past. I second every good thing anyone has said about their Dyson. If it breaks, we will just replace it with the same thing. Our last one was a Hoover Wind Tunnel and it was horrible. The dog hair always jammed in the inner parts and we had to constantly take it apart to get out the plug. Also, the filter thing was a pain and emptying the cannister made a mess about every time.

I know I will be in the minority here, but Dysons are way, way, way overpriced. If you can get one on clearance or for a deal, they are a decent vacuum, but full price is way too much (and yes, I paid full price for my DC14 Animal because at the time I got mine, there were no deals available).

Although they advertise it will never clog, that is not true. DH has to blow out the filter with his air compressor about once a month or it won't pick up like it did when it was new. I will say it is easy to take apart and unclog if necessary (which happens a lot at our house).

sarsah,
I have never had my dyson clog and I have two relatives that have one and they haven't either. To me, they are worth paying full price for, especially given our luck with previous vacuums but everyone's experience is different. I wonder if you got a "lemon"?
