Help with online/regular bank account.

My son is going to start working for an on line company. He will be answering questions online at home. People can pay 50 cents to ask a question. He will get 5 cents for every question he answers. He needs a back account for them to deposit what he earns. Any real bank would probably need a min. balance to get a free account.Since I don't think he will make much money that wouldn't really work for him. Does anyone know of a place he can get a free account? He wants to use my account and there is no way I want to give them my information. Thank you for your help.

Check out credit unions in your area that he'd be qualified to join. My credit union allows you to open and keep a savings account with as little as $5.00.

Thank you to both of you. And it is not a radio company. It just has the same name as a radio station here.

If he's a minor, many banks encourage savings by providing free savings accounts.

No he is 22 so that wouldn't work. Thank you for thinking of it though.

I guess no one else lives in an area where banks actually offer free checking? There's at least 3 in my area.

yeah I was going to say, just about every bank around here offers free checking, and some will have promotions where they will even pay you $50 or something, to open an account. Some have free checking only with direct deposit, well that's what he needs anyway I guess so that would work too...

The ones around us that are local with free checking require a minimum $250 initial deposit and then direct deposit to keep it free or you have to get their bank credit card

Wow! Both banks we go to for our savings accounts never had a minimum amount needed to open an account. Our checking we just had to have enough to cover checks in there to open it. That's IF you were ordering checks through them. I've never had any fees on my accounts.

My DS is working in a factory. He is 19. He had to have a checking or savings for his pay to be direct deposited and he just did a savings account and that was free and every Thurs. his check goes in no problem!!

Please warn him of all types of online scams. I have heard of companies that 'hire' people to read emails, post ads or links, etc, etc for a set amount....then they pull the old "we will send you a check for 1000, please deposit it then send us 800 and keep 200 for yourself" SCAM!! I saw one case where the company said it was a 'pre-employment' test of the kids honesty or integrity to complete a transaction before they were 'hired'. I would hate to see your son owing 800 to the bank, because they will come after HIM for it!!!

This sounds like a scam. I have never paid money to ask a question. Be very careful.

Maybe its one of those health or computer help sites where you pay to have your question answered by a professional or knowledgable tech.. I've seen some legit sites that do that.

This company is called Kgb and I have seen their adds on tv. I googled them and it looks like the people that work for them make anywhere from $2 to $6 an hour. And I bet those that make $6 an hour are very, very fast. I would think it would be much better to get a job at a fast food place making $8 something an hour but he is 22 and always knows best. Jobs are very hard to find here and he thinks at 22 he should be past a fast food job. I just hope once college starts up again he can find a job at school. I am still not that sure about this company. That is why I will not give them my information.

He had something like this happen to him already. On craigslist he posted that he would give guitar lessons. He got a reply that someone was sending their child here for the summer and they would love for him to give him lessons when he was here. They would send him a large check ahead of time and he would return the difference. lol He was excited, I told him it was a scam. I wonder how many young people fall for it. Thank you for your warning.

KGB is a legit company as is a similar company, ChaCha. Both are good supplemental jobs not main sources of income.

I used to work for Wells Fargo

and we had FREE checking at the time with no requirements. Also , most banks will give you free checking if you have direct deposit.

We looked at all the banks close by and they all had free checking but you also had to open a savings account with either a $50 or $100 min. Wells Fargo was one we forgot to check. I will go have a look. Thank you.
