Since I didn't know much about it, I googled it and read this part. "require most Americans to obtain health insurance, and mandate most employers to provide it to their workers." How can they force people to obtain health insurance?I don't understand that part. And if they mandate employers to provide health insurance won't the employers just deduct it from our earnings which will result in a smaller paycheck? I don't think I like how this sounds. If this is how its to be ,I am definately against it. Right now, bfs company gives them someting like $200 extra once a month, for employees to get health insurance if they need it ,and if you don't want the insurance you use the money however you want.I like it like that as we don't really need health insurance right now, and need the money for other things. |

I work in the Healthcare industry but I do not completely support the bill. I think everyone should have health insurance of some type, at least a high deductable catastrophic coverage policy. Employer sponsored plans are generally less expensive and have much better coverage than individual plans. There are also tax credits that businesses recieve for providing the plan---the tax credits are something that is being debated about---if Congress removes the credits on the final bill, most businesses will not provide the insurance. I agree that insurance costs need to be affordable, but that is not a simple thing. There are many many factors involved and it is NOT the insurance companies profits that raise the costs.

The bill has not passed anything but the house. It still has to pass the Senate. Why anyone would want a company standing in between their health and extreme profitability escapes me. More than 50% of all bankruptcies are caused by the cost of healthcare. This includes people with "good" health insurance. |

Yes, this is different than the cost of Health insurance and it is an important point. Medical costs are skyrocketing due to many factors.....malpractice insurance premiums, cost of excessive tests run so Dr's cya and don't get sued, costs of pharmaceuticals, that pay for ads for every new "made up" condition....on and on and on. The bankruptcies are also caused in part by people not understanding the coverage they purchased and not having adequate coverage when something bad happens. JMHO......

Malpractice insurance is less than 1% of all healthcare costs. MRIs , and other expensive procedures, are sometimes ordered for purely "CYA" reasons. Whether or not these procedures are warranted is unknown. No studies about their effectiveness has ever been done. You're right about pharmaceutical companies pushing "off label" uses and, quite frankly, in pursuit of the almighty dollar, tnese companies do push drugs for conditions for which the drugs have never been tested. I am sick of things like this happening: Leslie - Biltmore Lake, NC | BarackObama.com We have had the option of private insurance for many years. It is just not affordable for many people. When I think of small businesses, I think of companies with less than 20 people. Few of those companies are able to offer health insurance without bankrupting themselves. |

I work in the healthcare system and all I hear when I think about this plan is the sound of money being sucked out of my pockets and down the drain. I wonder if just better use of the systems we have now wouldnt be a good first step. I know from experiences at work that in most cases if you have BCBS and need and MRI, I have to jump through a couple hoops to get it for you. But, if you have medicare or medicaid, you can have whatever you want without an type of precertification. I do think that all children should have health care.
