Omg Lisa so many things I loved to go to the park and play on the swings, and go in the sprinklers. I also loved when the icecream man trunk came down the block. I also loved loved to color and loved the smell of crayola crayons nothing like a new box of crayons. I also miss riding my bike with my friends . I also miss going to the country upstate New York with my parents and my brothers and just having fun playing in the pool. We also used to go to a small ride playland and ride the rides all day and then go for hotdogs or pizza and then some icecream. We had so much fun and it cost so little and we were together as a family... We perhaps did not go on the best of vacation nor ate out at the most expensive places , but we had fun because those times growing up with my parents and my brothers will never come again . Therefore they are just wonderful memories in my mind and heart forever. To groovygirl your so right one day I too will experience the joys through my grandchild, although I have a few years as least I hope so.. Peace. Catherine

I guess I'm missing something but why CAN'T someone do a lot of the things they used to do when they were young? I understand physical limitations sometimes make it hard to ride bikes, roller skate, etc. But why can't adults do things such as color, finger paint, catch bugs and let them go, do sparklers and run in a sprinkler? Right now I have play-doh, crayons and coloring books in a cupboard in my living room and I'm childfree. No kids have ever been to my house, ever, so I'm the only one that is playing with/using these things. On the other hand, I have played play-doh, colored, etc with kids but it's just as fun to play with things yourself. Plus, I don't have to share, lol! I don't understand why so many people give up thier inner child when they get to adulthood. Yes, I can't play with my toys all day, every day like when I was little, but I can still get the crayolas out on occasion.

We should never ever give up on our inner child. The innocent and carefree times of being a kid of course cannot ever come back, however I believe if you have wonderful childhood memories, it is those memories we can reflect back on and think about and keep somewhere deep down inside as our inner child.I also have to say why is it that when we were younger we were always wishing to be 18 then 21 then 25 get married have children, why do we do this. Then when you come to the age you are which I am 46 you think back and say why was I rushing to grow up. I have to say though personally speaking I am glad I married young and had my children young, its not for everyone but at 46 and to have a 23, almost 21 and 17 year old I feel pretty good. And your so right your never ever to old to color with crayons never ever . Peace. Catherine

Act in plays. Acting was a HUGE part of who I was until I was 19 and then college and work didn't leave me enough time. It's a big time commitment to be in a play. I can still physically and mentally DO it but as a mother and wife, I cannot do it due to the time commitment involved. I already do not get a lot of time with DH and the kids because of work, kids karate and other family commitments. I could not add the 3-4 hours 3-6 times a week for rehersal that acting would demand (and that would be the minimum involvement). Sigh....

The splits! Used to be able to do it, can't now. And I used to be able to touch my foot to my forehead and put it behind my head too. Not any more. I still color, catch lightning bugs, jump rope, play board games, blow bubbles, I do all of that with my kids.

Oh, man.....those endless summer nights. I missed swinging and hop scotch, but thankfully, I not get to do those things every day as a Kindergarten teacher. I love seeing the things through their eyes that I had forgotten about. I will soon be having all that fun with the grand babies!

I miss being able to ride a bike, ice skate, roller skate, dance, do gymnastics. However I know have a nice "Trike" I can ride and I love it I get on it every night after mom goes to bed so long as its not raining and I think it has helped with my weight loss and leg strength I have been able to walk more without my cane. Go Me ! I still color, play gard came, board games, paint especially paint by number.

I miss riding my stingray bike with buttyfly handle bars and a banana seat all over town with my friends without a care in the world. The only thing you had to do is go home as soon as the street lights came on. Now my knees hurt after a couple blocks. I used to love to ride my red wooden skateboard (this was 42+ years ago and that is what we had). I tried my kids skateboards and after I fell wondered what in the world I was doing on a skateboard. Flexy Fliers were great fun but even if I still had one I don't think I would want to lay down on it and ride it. I also loved to slip and slide. I found I could not do it on my kids slip and slide because I was to afraid to run and throw myself on the ground. I don't mind going in the sprinkler though.

I want to run until I'm out of breath and swing so high on the swingset that it almost tips over.I want to walk on stilts and climb a great big tree .I want to ride my bicycle as fast as I can go on the trails and up and down dirt hills while dashing through warm mud puddles.I want to climb across the monkey bars and hang upside down.I want to go swimming in a warm pool and pretend I'm a mermaid. I want to go rollerskating to my favorite tunes and at the end of the day go home to the best parents in the world! Thanks for reminding me of the most cherished moments of my life. |

What Dolly said!! I miss all of that. I also want to wake up on Christmas morning, smelling my moms turkey and run downstairs to see what goodies had been left, then hang out all day with family and friends and know that my safe warm bed was right upstairs and that mom was right downstairs when I went to sleep. No worries at all, just sheer joy!

I still color! I have my own "Littlest Pet Shop" coloring book by the computer. (I am the only female in the house other than the dog, so the guys are not interested in coloring in such a girly book, LOL)

Climbing trees. My mother in law actually showed my youngest daughter and her friends the right way to climb a tree. I have a very crazy 70 year old mother in law. She can do things I could only dream about.....

dl that is a good one sadly for me both my grandfathers died when my parents were 10 years old themselves so I never had a grandfather. Then my dads mom passed away when I was 7 and then my moms mom passed away when I was 17 so I only had small memories. You were lucky because Grandparents are wonderful. Peace. Catherine

spend all summer at my grandparents farm, being able to run into the very middle and just scream cause I wanted to and no one would try to make me be quiet. Wake up every morning watch my grandpa shave and then going to my great grandpas house to take care of the morning chores, chickens, feeding cows, pigs ect. Then after we'd get that do we'd go to the little diner in town to "have coffee" he's get coffee and the owner would pile blueberry pancakes on a plate for me, i never could eat more than half but she'd always give me a huge stack. Unfortunatly I lost my grandpa over a year ago, grandma moved into a retirement home cause my family that's suppose to stay with her dont want to be bothered with her. wont take her to visit with Grandpa though she wants to go.

Instead of playing with playdoh, now I make homemade pasta. I have a pasta machine so I can make different widths and lengths. I can play with different shapes and recipes. And best of all.........it tastes good when you eat it!!! :-) Actually, I'm a children's assistant reference librarian and I still get to do a lot of stuff that I did as a child. I get to read wonderful books and lead storytimes. I play with puppets, and lead arts and crafts. I wear silly hats, necklaces and clothes sometimes. -- How many of you can wear a hot pink feather boa to work and get away with it???? :-) I get to play with little kids and get paid very well for doing it!!! I can't wait to have grandkids!!

Ah, that reminds me of last year when one of my students kept telling me she was gonna bring me a crown, because I was a princess. She asked her daddy one day if she could and he said sure. She showed up the next day with a crown from McDonalds. It was sized for like a 5 year old little girl and I had to wear it all day! My head was killing me when I got home.

They are wonderful, aren't they? I miss my grandpa every single day. I guess what I miss alot is like several posters said, just the not having anything to worry about......the innocence....not having a care in the world except having to get home when the street lights came on. No way would I let me kids walk to the corner gas station nowadays...walk to school, etc. Sigh. |

Oh yes there is nothing nothing like a brand new box of crayola crayons .And if you need do you just turn the box around and make your crayons sharp once again... Hey for trivia when we were younger and if we were sick and stayed home from school, my dad always would bring us a new coloring book. Omg the joys of being a kid once again... and watching Batman and Robin on television or the match game 75, 76, 77, totally trivia memories of being a kid.. Peace. Catherine

What I miss is my grandparents, they have been gone for years now. I miss having my biggest problem was not having my homework done. I miss having a face without wrinkles. I miss not being able to do a cartwheel anymore. My mind thinks I can still do it, but a few years ago when I tried.. my body disagrees with my mind. |

Yeah, that too! I can still do a cartwheel though.
