Help me out with children's shoe sizes

I just don't remember what size was worn when....I seem to recall the youth sizes approximately matching their grade in school....i.e 1st grade= size 1, etc. Is that about right for your kids?

What about the smaller sizes....the itty-bitty ones that are like size 2/3 up to size 10 or so?

FWIW, This is for orphanage projects in Afghanistan and Dijbouti.

hmph! Sorry, I'm no help....my boys have always had big feet (and well, they are big boys...) 6th graders wears a 12.5 (mens) and 4th grader is in a 9-10 (mens).

I'm betting that regardless of what size you buy, there will be someone who can wear them.

The size per grade is a good guide, but not written in stone, of course. The "baby" sizes go from 1-13, I think, or is it 12? My grand baby is 6 months and in a 1 shoe. When my younger daughter was 6, in first grade, she wore a 1 to a 2. My kids all had pretty big feet, though. My other grand baby is 18 months are is in a "baby" 7.

That seems like a good rule but didn't happen in my house. I swear my daughter has the BIGGEST feet. She is 8 and wears size 5(in flip flops she is womens 7). My 12 year old son is into size 11 mens. I have no idea where they get it!!!

As a rule of thumb (I've read) - double their age and add 2 for boys and add 1 for girls. My son pretty much followed this when he was younger.

My 12 year old son is 5'8 and a 1/2 and wears a 12-13 in mens (depending on how they are made)

My 9 year old daughter wears a 7.5-8 in womens. I've always said that her feet were to big for her body! She thin and about 4'8 or so. Just has big feet

wowzaa, some of the kids really do have big feet LOL. I have 1 also with really big fat feet .

6 yo DD wears a size 12, size 1 are too big for her

10 yo DS wears a size 5

9 yo DS wears a size 5 1/2 alt ho they are just a tad too big less than 1/2 inch

Now here's the shocker LOL..

13 yo DD wears a size 11 WIDE womens, She has to get this from her daddy he wears a size 13 wide mens. I wear a size 8-9 can fit into some 7 1/2 all depends on the shoe.

I've never heard of doing it by age or even adding to the age to get a shoe size. some how that just doesn't seem to add up to me.Maybe I'm doing it wrong ?

7 yo DD 7 x 2 +1 = 15 or size 2 would this be right ?

10 yo DS 10 x 2 + 2 = 22 or size 9 ?

some how this doesn't look right and I know it can't be right if it is correct at least not for my kids. again maybe I not doing it wrong.

I think the 2x + 1 works for the little ones.....like 6 and under. The sizes that go up to 13.
I do think that the kids in the countries the shoes are going to are smaller on average than their US counterparts.

Thank you all for the various data points. I think that the mix of shoes that I have from sizes 5....13...1....5 should be good for the kids who are mostly ages 2-10 and a few older. I am going to take back some of the really little shoes (<5 infant) as I'm not convinced that babies that size need shoes anyways.....especially when the older ones are running around without any.

My kids didn't wear shoes until they were toddler size 5. I figured until they were walking outside on pavement, they didn't need shoes.

My 6 year old DS wears a size 13 and my 9 year old DS wears a size 3.5, so as you can see it varies greatly by child.

LOL I KNOW what you are talking about cjs, or do I have a dirty mind this morning? It has been my experience (and disappointment!) that shoe size is NOT always an indicator of, um, ahem, their errrrrr, SIZE!!! YOU KNOW what I mean!!

Neither is hand size!!! You just never know, hahahah!

My 11 year old has tiny feet - a size 2 1/2. (Her 8 year old brother wears a 4 1/2.)

I wear a 9 1/2 or 10 and DH wears a 13. She certainly doesn't take after us.

I should add: at age 11 I was at least a women's size 7.

DS 6= size 13
DD 5= size 11
DD 3= size 8
DD 2= size 5

Me: size 8 in this http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flas...seo/US/EN/prod I'm partial to the Olivia Pump in printed silk, but I'm not picky.
