What were you doing 40 years ago today?

If you are as old as me ( or older), what were you doing 40 years ago today? It was history. I was 17 and just finished my junior year of high school. We were walking on the moon. They said that by the year 2000 we would be living on the moon.

I was sixteen, and had just finished my sophomore year. Wasn't it great? A man walked on the moon! I'd love to go back for just one day... and yes... Today would be fine!

I remember sitting at my Aunt and Uncle's house watching the fuzzy images on a black and white tv. It was like a party!

I was ten and remember we were scared because we didn't know if something bad would happen when they opened the door. It was very exciting and we couldn't believe how clear the pictures were.

I was riding down the street with my parents. Sadly I can't do that as they have both passed since then.

I was just a year old but my mom told me that she woke me from a nap so I could watch a man walk on the moon.

I was 4. I don't remember it. But I do know my dad had one of the old-time reel movie things that he taped it off the TV with! I don't remember him doing that, but I've seen the video.

Same here. All fuzzy and staticy (sp?). I didn't quite grasp the magnitude of the event at the time. And 24 years later, I was giving birth for the first time!

I thought the same thing Catherine.

I vaguely remember coming home from school during lunch and watching it on TV with my mother.

40 years ago I was in an incubator, struggling to survive. I was a preemie, born 10 weeks too early. So I spent a few months in an incubator, and have been legally blind ever since. Born too early and too much oxygen in the incu. I have to get pretty close to the screen to see it. But that is what *I* was doing 40 years ago! I'm so lucky to be here and have my wits about me!!

I was probably riding my bike, roller skating on the street or helping my brothers in building a "fort" in the field behind our house. When I was a kid you were outside playing until it got hot then you came in the house and read or played a board game. We were not allowed to turn on the TV untill the evening news came on. Except for Saturday morning when we were glued to the TV for about 3 hours.

This was a good question read52. Brought back really good memories.

Yes, good question read52! And gCarroll, your answer brought back memories for me too! I grew up in the 70's, but I remember what it was like to not have Nintendo! We played board games too, and for some strange reason we were not allowed to turn the TV on either! What was THAT all about?!! LOL
