Wedding!!!!!

If you click on the picture it will enlarge. This is me and the arch I made for my sons wedding. We were just putting it up and getting it centered, anchored, etc... Didn't have my high heels on yet! This is a grapevine arch I got at Target about 5 yrs ago at 90% off ($6.99) and we've used it for 4 different proms and now the wedding! I got most of the flowers on sale or clearance at Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Joanns. I think I have around $200.00 in flowers but I can use them in arrangements, etc... I got the baskets for the arch so we can just use those also. The wedding was awesome! The weather was great, my sick son was much better. My son (the groom, 25) sang his last karokee song for me and that made me cry! When he was 4 we were going into a Kmart in the evening. He was wearing a tank top, shorts and brown cowboy boots. As he was walking away from the car with me he was singing Bon Jovi's "I'm a cowboy" and a teenage girl was walking by and cracked up. We have always laughed about that and he sang it to me last night. I swear he was just 4 a few months ago...lol I couldn't be happier with my new daughter-in-law! Now, one week from this coming Sunday, my other son (18) heads off to college! Yikes! It's been quite the year!!!

Do you have any tips about doing silk flowers for weddings? My dd is getting married next summer and she wants to make the flowers for the girls and her but I don't have the first idea of how to do it. Does Michael's have classess? Congrats on your son's wedding.

I would definitely check Michaels as they are really helpful at my store. What I did for the arch was just get tiger lilies and blue flowers. Her colors were blue and silver. If you have time to plan ahead it really helps. I set the arch up in my living room and just kept adding stuff as I found it on clearance. I also bought tiny clear gem things to put by the lights so they would sparkle. What she did for her bouquets was really smart. She ordered tiger lily stems to make sure she would have them. Then the day of the wedding she just bought some bouquets at the flower stand and mixed tiger lilies in with them and wrapped them herself with those $1.00 ribbon spools from Michaels (which I got her! lol I'm always at Michaels- and they had these really pretty blue ribbons with some silver on them). For the mens boutenierres (sp) she had an awesome idea!! She went through all my srapbookking stickers. She attached sickers to cardstock tags with things that meant something to each groomsman. The best man had a tux, computer, guitar, etc... on his. The groom had a pirate chest/skull (he loved pirates as a kid), poker chips, guitar, etc.. on his. They were so cool. I will try to get some pics on here sometime because my sis took pics of each one and they are so cool and unique! For the tables instead of candles in jars I did this-I got some of those rosebud round vases (8), got four dark blue glassed with stems and at Dillards (for about 80% off) I got 4 margaritta glasses with a blue rim around the top. I put in those battery operated flicker flame candles and filled them with those see through plastic rocks/gems things I got for 1.59 a pack at Michaels (reg 3.99). They looked really cool on all the tables and the 8 glasses match her dishes and she can use them!!! I had the little candles on hand that I always buy at after Christmas sales. Hobby Lobby had their Christmas ribbon 50% off already (lol) and they had perfect royal blue wired ribbon spools and silver ribbons and I got 2 of each and we made bows for the back of the chairs out of those. We put white luminary bags out front that had double hearts cut out in front of the venue with those battery lights too. We used two sets of blue/white icicle lights to line the stairs inside that I got last Christmas super cheap. Michaels was clearing out their spring floral arrangements awhile back and I got tons of them for 60 or 80% off. That's how I got alot of the flowers. I picked the ones that had the colors and were in baskets, vases, etc... that I thought I could use again. You can be very creative if you know the colors and what they (bride and groom) like. She always loves butterflies so I used alot of those clip on butterflies in blues and oranges and clipped those on the arch and wreath. One of the arrangement I got for 60% off had a white basket with a blue liner and some blue flowers. So I added some lilies, tucked in a whole string of 150 white lights, more blue flowers and we set that on the gift table! The bridesmaids all just wore blue dresses of their own choosing. I see alot of that anymore-makes sense because you can actually wear them again. Guys wore linen or cargo pants, white shirts and silver ties. I bet the whole wedding was somewhere between $4,000.00 - $4,500.00. Beautiful park wedding, 4 bridesmaids, 4 groomsmen, had a whole bar/grill closed to the public from 8:00 to close and it has three open levels, keg of beer, cake, candy bags, meat/cheese/crackers, personalized clay poker chips for the guests (they both work at the casino which was about 3 miles from the reception), professional karokee, a beautiful arch and matching wreath, etc... We didn't have to have a formal dinner which really adds to the price but a person can do a reasonably priced beautiful wedding. I must say I had the time of my life thinking of creative things to do and I didn't even know I was creative! lol When Christmas clearance comes that will be a good time to get ribbons, etc...

Kathy-
Very impressed with your gorgeous arch, and you really should take a bow for putting all that together. One thing I thought of for the two bases is maybe decorative stone (or stone-like) planters, medium size. That would really give it that extra special touch.
Hey, didn't realize you were so young and hip!

Thanks for the reply. I am not an craftiy person (my husband is) but I am willing to learn. We are in an area that is expensive for weddings. Luckily we belong to a group that has a building that they rent out for weddings. Being members, we get special rates and a little more tender loving care. But my dd talked with her friends and they all agree that silk flowers were better so we are going to try it. We will also be decorating the hall so any ideas for centerpieces for the tables would be great. I liked your idea. We have also seen candy in different containers. Our future son-in-law is Indian (from India) but Catholic not Hindu. He will have relatives coming from India, England and Australia so we will be serving Indian and American food. I am glad we have a year to get it together.

I don't consider myself crafty either but maybe I'm a late bloomer! lol If you know her colors that's a great place to start. I don't know how many tables you will have to decorate. Will there be a "theme"? That helps too. Since "my bride" like butterflies it was easy to tie that into everything. Candy bars are pretty popular right now for favors. I don't know what your budget is but summer clearances worked great for me! Double check what your reception site allows as some places don't allow anything with glitter. And maybe you can put in some Indian touches. That would be fun!! Go Catholics! lol Have fun with it and keep us posted on how it's coming along.

I hope when my son gets married I am as much a part of it as you were at this wedding. He is a single man not swinging single but I hope he meets his one true love while I'm still "young and beautiful" lol.

I didn't get teary-eyed at all and I'm pretty sentimental. However, I did get teary eyed when he sang that song to me at the very end of the evening. The only advice I would ever give would be to stand back, help if they want you to and HAVE A BLAST!!!!! It was just an absolutely perfect day. So many fun memories....

Hi
Here are a few tips you can use to create your own artifficial wedding flowers

1.Browse bridal websites to get a sense of what you want for your wedding flowers. Take note of the color, the variety of flowers used, the shape of the bouquet, the size and the accessories.
2. Make sure that your wedding flowers suits the style and theme of your wedding. The color of the bouquet should also match your skin complexion and your makeup.
3. You are the star of your wedding, so your bouquet should be an accessory. It should not be something that takes the focus away from you, nor should it be something that overshadows your wedding dress.

All the Best ...
