Help! Sinus...stuff

I'm new to this sinus misery, my head feels really heavy/achey, and the post nasel drip (I know!) is just...gross. I bought a Netipot and it helps..um, for 10 mins.
Trying to avoid going to the DR.. Oh,and my ears feel like they are being tugged on
How long will this last, is it like a cold?
TIA
J.

Are you taking any allergy meds? DD takes Claritin, DH and I take Zyrtec and DS takes Benadryl. All of these are generic that I purchase at Sam's. Generic Sudafed PE works well for congestion. I've noticed that I feel better if I take my allergy pill in the evening usually between 6 and 8. I have taken it as early as 2:30 if my allergies are acting up. There's something in our air right now that's causing all of us to have a reaction. If needed, I also take Benadryl.

It keeps me from getting up feeling bad. I can handle the 24 hr pill wearing off in the afternoon/evening better than first thing in the mornings.

Eat spicy foods! It gets things moving so hey leave faster. When I feel sinus-y I make soup and spice it up with habanero pepper.. yes the #2 hottest pepper in the world (I love spicy food). Pretty soon my nose is running, my eyes are watering.. it's great to clear the head out.

I also use the nettipot. When things are bad I use it at least 4 times a day.. when they start to improve I cut down to twice a day.

Feel better soon!

I get terrible sinus headaches. The best thing that works for me is using one of those facial steamers. Just let it heat up and stick your face in it. After you do it, you'll feel some relief...hopefully! I know how horrible it feels... ~Lisa

My son has a sinus infection and I feel one coming along. The entire family takes Zyrtec at night, plus my son and I use Flonase.

I use a sinus rinse - like the Neti Pot but in a bottle - and have been doing that 2x/day.

I get frequent sinus infections because it is really hard for me to clear my nose and expel the goo through my mouth (spit it out - sorry if TMI). Somehow I lack that mechanism. My sinuses are kind of messed up anyway. The sinus rinse is helping - especially if I notice I am starting to have sinus issues. I woke up with a horrible headache this morning - the weather is changing and the sinus pressure is wicked.

I agree! But I'm gonna say that I think Wasabi is best for clearing sinuses (but don't snort it like they did on Jackass )

P.S. I don't like spicy foods, but they work wonders for clearing you out.

I forgot about wasabi! That stuff is great! I keep some in my fridge, yum yum!

I remember my mom used to smell horseradish. She did sniff it in her nose, just opened the jar and smell when she had sinus problems. It worked for her.

I use a neti pot to flush out my sinuses with a warm water with salt solution. It gets all the gunk out and it's so easy to do. It's painless as long as you make sure you use warm water with some salt in it. Otherwise it'll burn a bit. I use my neti pot at least twice a week and more if I'm sick with a cold or something. But I'm hardly ever sick, because they say by using a neti pot, you keep your nose flushed out and it helps to flush out potential things that can cause colds.

Just depends.... I usually don't notice anything, but sometimes, when I am blowing my nose a lot in the monring, when I'm full of 'stuff', I'll neti, and yes, then I notice a long stream, of well, sorry to be gross, but snot!! It comes out with the rinse water. And then I am clenaed out and can breathe and everything smells good again and wow, I love my neti!

I end up using Vicks and taking allergy meds. When I am really miserable I take a LONG hot shower. I stay in until I can breathe and the gunk in my nose can be blown out.
