Every day:
1 Centrum Cardio
2 fish oil
1 St. Joe baby aspirin

Try to remember every day, but don't always:
a 2nd Centrum Cardio
1 calcium with vitamin D

I also keep a shaker (a parmesan cheese shaker) next to the salt & pepper by my stove of ground flax seed. When I salt & pepper what I'm cooking, I shake flax seed onto it, too. You can't taste it. I also add it to salads and other things.

I don't take any vitamins. I never have. I always thought they stank, cost to much, and didn't do a darn thing anyways....... now that I am about to turn 41, I am noticing some changes in my body, and have started to wonder if it might not hurt to take some kind of an all around supplement for women who are entering peri-menopause............ but I can't afford them, and I try to eat a healthy diet, lots of good carbs like 100% whole wheat, fresh fruits, Dreamfield's pasta when I want pasta, lots of low fat cheeses and nuts......veggies.

I always thought of the vitamin industry as just a way for them to milk money out of people. Now, I'm not so sure......

I don't konw what is the right vitamin for me. Do they still make Geritol?

Try taking a high-potency D-3 vitamin (1000 IU or about 250% of the daily recommended value) and a Super-B vitamin. DH is a pharmacist and this is what we take every day. I definitely notice if I miss taking them one day, especially if I forget to take one in the winter.

If you get too much of a water soluble vitamin you will generally just pee out the excess. You want to avoid the super high doses of the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) as the excess is stored in your body and can cause toxicity if you get too much of them.

I always kind of thought like you until about 5 years ago when I had a bone density scan and found out I was declining into the red zone. I'm not good with remembering numbers, but it was not yet bad, but very close to bad. I started taking calcium and my last bone scan was enormously improved. I am now midway in the green zone, having bypassed most of the yellow zone. So I will be taking calcium for the rest of my life.

There are several generic vitamin and mineral sources that can be found to get whatever you need fairly inexpensively. Right now I'm using, Puritan's Pride. They have sales once or twice a year where you buy one and get two. I prefer to not take a multi vitamin. So I buy calcium and D for myself and flaxseed for my husband. I doubt if I pay much more than 10 cents a day for both of our supplements. I think Sam's Club, Costco and sometimes Walgreen's have good prices on the generic vitamins and minerals as well.

Vitamins are important to the body. If you eat right you should get most of what you need. As you get older, your body changes ( I am getting tired of the doctors telling me that). I take 1200 mg of calcium and about 1000 of vitamin D. After a bone scan 3 years ago I am a little in the negative. I have tried 4 meds (boniva, fosmax, actenol, and evista) and had reactions to all. I am on a 5th med that seems to be working. My dh has to take B12 twice a month by injection because of nerve problems. He also takes calcium, vitamin D and potassium.
We also take a multiple vitamin. Check your vitamin D. The doctors are finding that many people have a problem with that because we don't get out in the sun enough without sunscreen.

I take a sublingual B-12 every day, I was taking 5000mcg, but since my last lab came back super high I'm only taking 2500mcg now. I feel SO much better. I was deficient even though my level was in the "normal" range according to the lab. And I know I've had this problem for over 10 years because I had the same symptoms that have now cleared up. And yes you just pee out what you don't need. I'm taking cyanocobalamin since that's easily available and cheap and obviously worked, but if I could find methylcobalamin in stores I'd be taking that instead.

I was taking calcium for a while but have slacked on it. Calcium citrate is absorbed better than carbonate, but hydroxyapatite is better. I haven't seen it in stores but I haven't looked everywhere.

I also believe that you should get your vitamins by eating well. With that being said, I'm in the "you're getting older and your tests are coming back with undesirable results" club. I've had a vitamin D deficiency, so now I take vitamin D and calcuim. I also have to take perscription folic acid because of some other medications I'm on. My most recent is chia seeds for omega 3. I buy them in bulk (5 pounds) and mix them in here and there. It's cheap omega 3 and vegetarian friendly.

FYI Rite Aid has vitamins BOGO starting 8/16

I can't swallow pills easily so I don't take vitamins. I tried for awhile but it wasn't worth it. I do munch on a couple of the kids gummy calcium chews and fish oil chews which taste yummy or I might take a couple of their chewables if I don't get many veggies in. All in all, I try to eat right. The kids don't eat quite as well as I do (I mean, really...they are kids) so I give them vitamins. I don't know if it's helping or not but it's not hurting them

Centrum has a liqiud multivitamin at walmart. I have been taking that this month, to see if my body absorbs it better than the pill version. It's not the best tasting thing on earth, but not the worst either.

I take Iron daily. I was anemic but last time I was tested it showed I was not anymore but that was over a year ago.I was told I could stop taking the Iron pills and B 12 injections. I notice bags under my eyes sometimes and get very tired easy so I have started taking the iron again.I have not been taking the B 12 injections anymore though.

I take a women's multivitamin, a b-complex, and calcium. I think I'm supposed to be taking an iron supplement too, but I'm not. I give blood every three months and find that if i take the multi, my hematocrit tests OK.

Multi~chewable Trader Joe's
Omega 3-Fatty Acids
Vitamin C 500mg~Chewable Nature Made
Oil of Evening Primrose

The other two I chase down with a smoothie. I've never been able to swallow pills very easily.

I figure I can't afford not to take vitamins daily. Watch Rite Aid or Walgreens for sales. They often have B1G1F or 50% off. Nature Made vitamins have the codes on the sides of the bottles that can redeemed for coupons. There are some Centrum Vitamin Coupons floating around right now. Google it. Nature Made,Nature's Bounty, Sundown Natural's has coupons on their sites.
