May you & your fellow soldiers stay safe BUT does OPSEC mean anything to you???? I have family & friends in the military and all over the world BUT would NEVER post their address out there for anyone & everyone to see. Even if it is your address, you do realize that anyone can see it & not just the members here.

Hi! WOw, you are farrrr away, in a dusty location! What is it like in Afghanistan? I read that book called "Kabul Beauty School" about a bunch of women who secretly started their own beauty school and all of the trials and tribulations they had to go through to do it. Very interesting, and really puts you into a whole new perspective of how our lives are so different.

If I see any freebies, I will submit the form and put your name and address down. I hope I can find some! I used to sponsor a soldier when he was in Kosovo. It used to cost something like only $12 to ship a Priority box, any weight, to him at the base there. Any idea on what the rate is now for APO addys? That was years ago, gosh, NINE years ago!! (Where did the time go??) Anyways, it was super cheap to ship stuff like that because it was to an APO address.

I wish I had a chance to get to the store and buy some stuff to send. I'd love to sponsor someone again, but I don't have wheels right now, or much money. I can, however, look for stuff online. I hope some of our other members can help too!!

There are a lot of wonderful people here at MC! ;-)

Operations security for the military. It goes into things like not posting specific info on boards so the enemy can get more information on our locations. Also not putting exact dates of return from duties either.

Awesome poster on there that needs to be remembered on a daily basis by those in & around the military. One of the things that is repeated over & over to me by my family & friends is to protect & guard the addresses for over there. Posting them on a public message board is a huge no-no. I hear things on a daily basis being talked about in the public that make me scratch my head & think what in the world are they thinking talking about things like that where any & everyone can hear them.

Operations security - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Operations Security.....

Operations security (OPSEC) is a process that identifies critical information to determine if friendly actions can be observed by adversary intelligence systems, determines if information obtained by adversaries could be interpreted to be useful to them, and then executes selected measures that eliminate or reduce adversary exploitation of friendly critical information.

He has also posted it on almost all the other boards on here. I wouldn't doubt that he has posted on a few other boards also. I am going to err on the side of nice and say he isn't trying some sort of scam/spam, but this seems really strange to me. Why if he was going to post an address, did he post just HIS and his buddy's? Why wouldn't he post the name/address of the base or whatever it is? So that all the men can get the supplies? I am not very familiar with military ways, but wouldn't that make more sense? I mean if you're gonna violate terms anyway?

I don't know that he's violating any terms exactly, other than MC's policy of not posting name and address. If you google :

"
you get all kinds of addresses and names. This one is a link to a newspaper I guess??? that you can submit names and addresses of deployed or deploying service members: Sentinelnow.com - The Upper Dauphin Sentinel Online

I certainly hope this isn't a case of someone asking for the kindness of strangers (getting free toiletries, etc) and then selling these things to fellow service members. Personally, I would seek out one of the many "to any service member" addresses to send goodies.

That's what I was trying to say. If they are indeed that desperate for these items, then I'm sure there are those that would see a way to make a profit from it.

I also hope this isn't one of those situation and that the OP remembers who he is and what he is there for.

I found the same things as well as more information about the unit mentioned in the address. I found an article about how many in the unit are deploying and as to the time frame they were heading over there. I am scratching my head as to how they are out of things already given that they have not been there very long according to the articles. No matter what, I still disagree with posting the full address here. If help is needed by the soldier, there are many adopt a soldier organizations that make sure the people that receive the soldier's addresses are legitimate.

EXACTLY!!! It wouldn't be too hard to contact someone above him, and get the real scoop.

I wouldn't care if he was making a profit,at least the needed items would be available to the people who needed them and thats the important thing.I'd rather pay for something I wanted and needed then go without just because it wasn't free.JMO

Making a profit as has been described is unethical, immoral and sometimes illegal!

While it's true that some military members don't always have the things they may want or need--there are numerous legitimate organizations and charities that take donations for this kind of thing.

Frankly, I'm appalled at the thought of any soldier seeking "free" donations, only to sell them at inflated rates to their fellow soldiers.
