Question What kind of topical flea meds do you use? Like Frontline Plus, etc?

My mom is convinced that her dogs have become immune to the Frontline Plus she's been using for the past several years. I don't see how this is possible, sigh, but what can you do?

Can you guys tell me what YOU use on your dogs? She wants a topical one, like Frontline, the liquid you just put on them. Oh, and we've tried the Hartz brand, and it sucks!! She wants the good $$$ stuff.

She thanks you for your help, in advance!

I swear by Advantage! I always try to keep some around for the cats. It's great at killing fleas. I used Frontline once.. it seemed to not work as well.. or lose it's power after a couple of weeks.

What kind of yard does your mom have? We live in the country and DH sprinkles something around the perimeter of the yard. You're supposed to do it just before it rains. It keeps fleas and ticks out of the yard so your animals don't pick them up. We get an occasional tick (the dog probably wanders into the woods). We've tried the topical drops and had more problems when we used them. HTH

Yea we have always used the Advantix. We love it here. Doesn't take long at all to start working, and the other topicals always left a greasy trail on her back.

I liked Frontline...it was wonderful! It is possible that it's not as strong as it once was? It seems like everything that used to work great at one time now isn't as good as it used to be! My dog was on this for MANY years and it killed flea as well as ticks!

I would NOT use an OTC flea med! Those just don't work!

Do you know where she got the Frontline Plus? There is a fair amount of counterfeit Frontline (and other flea/tick control products) out there, even from the big on-line retailers.

Frontline stopped working for us too. Advantage has worked great.

I would avoid any of the flea meds that you see in the department or grocery stores, we've had bad experiences with them.

I get Bio Spot at a farm supply store, no prescription, and it's the best thing that's ever worked for our pets.

My dog's skin is too sensitive for topical treatments. I just put her on Comfortis (a pill), and no problems whatsoever.

I use Frontline on our Golden Retriever. Seems to work fine.

EricnVicky~~~OMG ! Thanks for posting about Hartz Products. What a nightmare. Stay away from this brand! Although it can be expensive, it's better to stick with the vet brands.
