Whew ladies at 46 years old I am so tired of getting my period it is one friend I wish would disappear forever. At this point in my life I paid my dues lol, I had my children, have had it since I was 11 years old, suffered as a teenager with the worst cramps. Fast forward during child bearing years my period while every 28 days and very heavy bleeding my not too bad. However lately like the last year and half its sooooo horrible, it comes every 22 days while it is shorter, the cramps are like sometimes labor pains, my stomach is so sore, the mood swings, the migranes, the hot flashes and its like 3 days a month of being sick I am on the last day now and yesterday was so bad. I am due to visit my gyno on the 15 of September . Last visit he told me I was starting the changes however it could take up to 3 years to fully end. I will say this to all young girls who cannot wait to they get their period they do not know what they are not missing. On a personal note my younger dd Cailtin is sadly following my footsteps and I feel so bad for her. Ok ladies thanks for the vent.. Peace to my period ending . Catherine

I'm right there with you, Catherine. I am turned 49 this summer and started the summer I turned 10, so 39 FREAKING YEARS OF THIS! I am so ready to be done, and Aunt Flo shows no signs of leaving anytime soon. The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing it will have to stop...eventually. My sister stopped at 51 so I am hoping...

Ughhhh, I hear you. I'm 42 yo and cannot wait until I am done. I once heard a doctor say, in reference to birth control pills, the reason the 5 day pills are in the pack is so the woman can get her period. He always figured that it made a women feel more womanly. Ummm, no thanks, I really don't need that aspect of my life to feel womanly. On a side not, try drinking raspberry tea everyday (real raspberry tea like you would get from a tea store, with little bits of dried fruit in it). It will help to regulate your hormones and help to prevent the fluctuations. Also, if you are iron defecient after, try taking a tablespoon of organic, un-filtered molasses every morning. It tastes gross, but trust me, you feel much better. |

Omg ladies I feel your pains as well it truly truly is terrible and while I am so happy to be a women, because as women we are wonderful lol but periods are too long, I have always said once you decide not to have anymore children, your period should end, however we all know that is not the case. Oh well thanks again for the vent and for listening . Peace and heres to all our periods ending soon real soon lol... Catherine

I got mine the summer before 6th grade, so however old you are then. I am 42 now. I am so over it. I was so over it after the first year. My mom went thru menopause fairly young, at 39, so I was hoping I would too. No such luck. After I had my twins 4 years ago my periods got worse. I called it my monthly massacre. I could not go the first and second day without using an Ultra OB and the biggest pad I could find. Still whenever I stood up I would have that lovely gush. I had to change everything at least every hour. My Gyn just put me on seasonique 5 weeks ago. So far so good! I am LOVING not having a period!!!

Afurrything first off never asked who is the guy in the picture , then with this contraseptrives medicine your taking what are the side effects, I really would love to try it however because I already take xanax and paxil and imitrex when I get those lovely migranes I worry and while my periods are lighter as far as flow goes like you mentioned the cramps are sooooooo bad and its so light. However I can remember those days of wearing pads as big as futons literally and it still was not enough one word disgusting and in the hot weather more disgusting. Its more now that between getting my period every 21-23 days and then lasting for 3-4 days and the cramps and how sore my stomach is and the hot flashes and mood swings and feels so anxious its horrible omg I hate it hate hate it... So kindly share with what your gyno gave you and perhaps I will discuss it with my gyno doctor. Thanks so much peace. Catherine

So far this time I have had no side effects at all. No mood swings, no headaches(and I am prone to migraines too) really I have not noticed anything different about me while i have been taking them. I am on week 6 now. That is Eddie Vedder, the singer for Pearl Jam. MMMMM he is quite yummy! I just flew to Chicago last weekend to see two PJ shows, I was not disappointed! Here is a bigger picture

I had all that mess until about 2 years ago, when I had an endometrial ablation done. NO MORE PERIODS! NO MORE CRAMPING!! Of course, I'm still a bee-otch once a month (or more, LOL) but it has made me a free woman! It was out patient surgery, and I was at a craft fair the next day! Here's some info on the procedure that I had : About The NovaSure Procedure (Endometrial Ablation)

I don't take Seasonique, I take regular birth control pills (Ovcon) and skip the placebo week. I haven't had a period in around 3 years. When I do, it's maybe once a year. No side effects - I may have had some break through bleeding when I first started. I honestly can't remember. It's worked great for me! My Gyno told me I can keep taking them up until I start menopause and intend to do just that.

I started my period when I was 10 also. It was HORRIBLE the last few years I had it. I bled so heavy with huge clots I could not even leave the house. Finally, after so many years of being anemic the recommended a hysterectomy. One year ago(June 27th--day after my 43rd B-day) I had my surgery. No more periods and LOVING it but I will still say I am still very anemic. Now they are looking into other causes. My 8 year old daughter talks about getting her period all the time and I tell her she can wait. She is already showing signs of following in my early footsteps. We actually had to buy her little bras(because she needs them) and she has a couple of armpit and other hair. I just hate for her to have to go through all the stuff we have all been through and hated. As far as the ablation, one OB recommended it but my NEW ob said it is not to stop periods just lighten them--so research it.

Thanks ladies so much for the advice so far, I have like I said thought of going back on birth control but again I worry about my other medications I take. As far as a elective operation I dearly worry about that also and honestly would only go that path with last options to me surgery is always risky but I do know there are options. I have also thought about doing something naturally with vitamins or supplements from my vitamin store .On off topic yes Afurrything that guy you have as your avatar is a hottie, but my hottie will always be the one and only Gary Oldman... Peace. Catherine

I had an ablation a year and a half ago(I'm 38), and it was the BEST thing I ever did for myself. I had the super heavy periods-an ultra tampon AND an overnight pad in less than an hour-they were so bad I got anmeic from it, would get dizzy and almost faint, etc. I tried all different kinds of bc pills and most helped a little but not very much. The ablation was the last resort and I do not regret it one bit. I have no more bleeding and very few PMS symptoms, just a bit of cravings and some of the crazy emotions but nothing like before. I had no complications from having it done and very little pain, just a few cramps which were much less than what I'd been having with my period. I recommend an ablation to anyone who has bad periods and is not concerned about not being able to have kids anymore.

I have a Mirena IUD and I never have a period. I have had for about 2-1/2 years. They have to be replaced every 5 years. No side effects.

Well, I turned 55 yesterday! Mine stopped three years this coming December. YAY!! I don't miss them at all. I was having the heavy periods too and cramps. My doctor had prescribed Aleve for pain for my fibromyalgia and neck, and I found simply by accident that Aleve slowed down the flow and stopped the cramps. I would take two Aleves (naproxin) and it would help so much. So I suggest start with one Aleve and see what happens and then take another one in an hour or so. You'll find it really makes a difference.

I am 47 and for the past 2 years have had very slight, light, 1-2 day periods. My doc says that it's not considered "real" menopause unless you go for at least 6 months with NO bleeding at all. I mean, he considers even one small drop as a period. I am already going through hot flashes and mood swings so I don't know if I have much farther to go, but I did get my hormones checked and it said I was in "early menopause" so I guess I am omw...LOL.

I just turned 41 last Wednesday. Still waiting. For it to go away, that is. LOL Seriously, having my period never bothered me a bit. It meant that for 100% sure, I was NOT pregnant! I have always taken b.c. pills, and felt completely in control of my body, my self.... but when my P came every month, I always felt like, "PHEW!!" LOL! |

I have been anemic for years. My new doctor finally sent me for a bunch of tests to figure out what was going on. My periods are also very heavy. Ended up finding out that I have an ulcer, low in vitamins B and D, and also have Hypothyroidism. Spent that last four months trying to get my thyroid issues under control. My last test did show my anemia had improved. Only went 20 days between periods this month. I will be 47 in a few weeks and I can't wait for menopause!
