First thing you need to find out is what your state requires from you. Here in SC, the teacher(parent) needs a high school diploma. The only documents I'm required to keep are attendance records. Also, find out what the college your child thinks they'd like to go to requires for completed courses (i.e. foreign language (1or 2yrs.), how many years of English, etc.). I use ABeka home school dvd program for both my high school kids. I find ABeka the easiest for them to follow. As too home school assoc., see if any have a local phone number to call. I found this the easiest way to find a local assoc. HTH, Judy p.s. You can email me at judyrhirtle@yahoo.com if you would like. I'll try to answer any other questions you have. |

We used Switched on Schoolhouse (Alpha Omega) which you buy the DVDs and use on a computer. I also used other teaching techniques in addition to Switched on Schoolhouse. Our homeschool organization also offered classes if you, the parent, were unable to teach it. Plus they used the local two year college in our area in 12th grade. We had a set time for them to do their school work. It wasn't one of those "do it when you want to". One of the advantages of homeschooling, however, is if there is something else that has to be done, the school work can be done another time. With Switched on Schoolhouse, you don't 'skip' over things.... it takes you right back to where you left off. I suggest researching the different homeschool organizations in your area and find the BEST one that offers a lot and is really involved with homeschooling. Some organizations you have to be careful because they're in name only. Even if your children are not interested in the extra activities offered, a good homeschool organization can offer many ideas and help you throughout the homeschooling process. Good luck to you!! Both my boys love being at home. They are actually able to learn now, instead of having classes disrupted by others. They say they don't miss the school functions. They are both like me. I hated school functions because of how clicky they were. They have lots of friends from when they were in elementary school they hang out with. The one thing a lot of people forget is - school is for learning, not socializing. That should be done after school. lol Judy |
