Can we talk about butts?

I've lost almost 60 pounds, and am about 15 pounds from my goal weight. It's taken me almost two years to lose the weight, but I'm really excited about it. My problem is that I still have a belly, my bottom sags, and my outer thighs have a couple of bulges. I'm almost 40.

Can anyone suggest exercises to help? I have an ongoing knee problem that keeps me from climbing stairs, doing squats and the other exercises that the web seems to promote. I can't afford to consult with a trainer or gym. I'd love to reach my goal weight AND look decent in a bathing suit.

Thanks!
Mariah

I hear you! I have no advise though. I too have a bad knee and I can't do squats, lunges or most of the other exercises that you do to "firm up" those areas. I used to use a thigh machine at the gym that helped but I dropped the gym membership and haven't been able to replicate it at home. CONGRATS on the weight loss! I hope someone else has some recommendations

Oh my gosh - me too! Since Jan 3rd I have lost 47 pounds (Went from a size 16-18 to 10-12) and I think I look worse (well, naked I look worse)

The loose skin is disgusting, especially on my inside thighs and butt. Plus I lost so much fat off my butt that my tailbone has no padding and it hurts to sit in chairs without a cushion. I even had to put a folded towel in the bathtub so I could be comfortable.

I've been doing a lot of lunges and squat type exercises to try to build up some muscle mass in my butt, just have not seen very good results yet.

Anyone with advise?

PS - Congrats on the HUGE weight loss!

What about a stair climber, the exercise equipment?(this is best plus unbelievable exercise in general) Does that hurt your knees too? OK so how about on hands and knees and lifting one leg at a time as high as you can? I think that's supposed to tighten your rear.

Get a road bike. My knees are close to replacement stage, but road biking doesn't hurt me or make them swell. I actually believe it has delayed the surgery for a few years. Biking is a great, low-impact exercise for the legs, butt, and inner core. And, I find I can drive myself further than on a stationary bike, because if I ride far away from home, I have to get back. That is how I have increased my mileage and stamina.

I bike 10-20 miles a day weather permitting. 50-60 miles on Saturday or Sunday. There are many bike groups if you are a group type of person or if you are looking to meet new people.

I have also found my road bike is an excellent therapist. And, it is something my husband and I can do together.

Mariah first of all CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Pilates and core exercises completely changed the shape of my butt. It looked like someone threw lumps of clay at the wall and hung a shelf above it.

After over a year of doing the exercises I have a lovely shapely butt.

Here I what I use:

Amazon.com: :08 Min Core Workouts: Abs, Arms, Thighs, Buns and Stretch: Various: Movies & TV
Amazon.com: :08 Min Pilates: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced: Various: Movies & TV
(look below you can get all three for a good price on the second link)

Now I respectfully request a picture of the new you!

How about dead lifts?

HowStuffWorks "Bent Leg Deadlift for Women"

You can alter this so it doesn't bother your knees. Keep your knees hip width apart and slightly bend them instead of bending them as much as the picture shows. Instead of squatting to the ground, bend at the waist and slowly raise yourself to a standing position, being sure to not hunch your back. Lower yourself slowly and repeat. This will really firm up the back of your legs and also your butt. I did this a lot when I had a knee injury and couldn't do leg presses and it didn't bother my knees at all.

Thanks, guys! There's a few of them that I'm going to try. I'd love to bike, but just can't manage it. Every time I peddle, I can feel the bones in my knee grinding I hope some of these work!!!
