Workplace bullying

First of all, please don't take my comments lightly..Bullying by our "new" manager has gone on for 18 months now..It's significant..Slit your throat gestures to a staff member included in client area; we don't go into her office unless accompanied by another staff member as a witness; we carry our Weingarten rights in our pockets (these are union related; that if the discussion could include discipline actions, we want union representation); flagrant documented lies; intimidation; we had a staff member charged with insubordination--ridiculous; micromanages the unit to have only those "she can control" be on meetings or do any activities; I could go on and on with examples, but it's readily evident; believe me; I've personally told the hospital assistance program staff that she is going to hurt someone last October; most of us believe she is mentally ill; it's her third job in 5 years in this institution; her resume had no dates- wonder why?? red flag!! we are unionized; the union is aware and has much documentation but it doesn't seem to matter; one staff member filed 6 grievances in 2 weeks just by herself; we still exist in this environment; upper management is well aware; it just seems to be shuffled under the carpet; Yes I would leave this job, but unfortunately, the jobs aren't there; I'd leave the institution, but I'm less than 5 years from environment; we are "victims" yet are treated as the cause; I've become disillusioned, angry, you name it; we're ready to go to "John Stossel" soon for investigative reporting..Anyone in similar boats?? What's left to do but document?? I find it difficult to just "ignore" it as this is wrong; unethical and jeopardizes our staff and clients

What pisses me off is that it doesn't matter if it's legal or not. Companies can do basically what they want. It's up to the employees to prove something is wrong. Then you are branded forever everytime someone calls for a work reference they are told you are not worthy of rehire and even though it's illegal may even be told you are a big mouth trouble maker.

Look what happened to Anita Hill. Just for one example. Her bully became a Supreme Court Judge.

I feel for you. I worked at a place once where I felt "bullied' as did many others. We complained yet nothing was done. I was given the *crap* hours because I complained. The others were penalized because we stood up for ourselves and our rights. I ultimately quit. My mental and physical health were too important and I was making myself sick not wanting to go to work.

we presently feel that way to sexysmurf..Unfortunately, there is no where to go.Believe me, I would readily leave..Especially after being called into the office for allegations of shuffling papers on someone's desk, accused of making statements which were not true, and inuendos of stealing. All false.Done to intimidate because I'm well versed in the union contract..Worse to me is the fact that higher ups, who are not Mentally ill?, allow this behavior to exist..I'm beginning to believe they are all "corrupt" in some way or have something major to hide..She's an embarrassment to my profession

I seem to recall other posts on this situation over the last year+ and it sure sounds lke nothing has changed, or if anything, thing s have gotten worse. I know you say that there are no other opportunities, but I would encourage spending all your energy finding one.

Barring that, there are a lot of good books on this subject...I've read "Bully at Work" by Namie and "The No ******* Rule" by Sutton. They offer some tips and techniques that might be helpful....
