Roman Polanski

What's up with people supporting this creep anyway? Why am I not surprised that Whoopi G. says he didn't "rape-rape" her but something happen, just not "rape-rape". And anal sex no less. What the heck is that all about? The girl was 13 years old and he admitted having sex with her. She was drugged. She said no. What's not rape about this? And what the heck is wrong with people acting like this was no big deal and leave poor Mr. Polanski alone? Disgusts me.

Punish him to the full extent of the law just as others who have been captured after many years are punished. Sara Jane Moore/Olsen lived for years as a respectable mother and pillar of the community and had to serve her time.
Many others have also. This man committed a rape it doesn't matter that the victim has "gotten over it".
Funny how "regular" people can't get away with this crap.

I don't care how wonderful or talented or anything he is or perceived to be he raped a young girl. Maybe he never did it again I don't know but he did it and he was even convicted. Many of the people who get caught years later hadn't even been indicted yet.

Make him pay the price for the choice he made. Hey many of us made poor choices in our youth that came nowhere near rape and may still be suffering the consequences of those decisions.

It's disgusting the way people are defending him.

She was just saying what the charges were that he pleaded guilty to. She just wanted to get it right. I'm sure they don't want to get sued because they said one thing and it was really another. You have to remember it was a plea bargain . He didn't plead guilty to many of the things that he was charged with, only 1 thing and I can't remember how it was worded. Whoopi didn't agree with what he did but needed to make sure they worded it correctly.

I for one was very happy to learn that he was arrested.

Found this:
The actress Whoopi Goldberg has coined the stupidest term in the whole furore over Roman Polanski’s arrest in Zurich for having sexual intercourse with a minor.

Speaking on television show The View, Goldberg said “I know it wasn’t rape-rape. I think it was something else, but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”

“Rape-rape?” As opposed to just ‘rape’? Goldberg was trying to pin down the exact crime Polanski was charged with but she still seems to be suggesting that there are different levels of forcing someone to have sexual intercourse without their consent, that some rapes are better than others. What a dangerous and foolish thing to say.

Goldberg also said: “We’re a different kind of society. We see things differently. The world sees 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds in the rest of Europe… not everybody agrees with the way we see things…”

Polanski’s 13-year-old victim was intoxicated by champagne and a Quaalude before he took pictures of her naked. Then, despite her alleged resistance, the 44-year-old had sexual intercourse with her. Despite Polanski’s mastery at film making, let’s not pretend that we see this as anything but despicable and utterly wrong. Even in Europe.

We live in a country where 85% of serious sexual offences against people 16 and over are not reported to police. In the US, that figure is 60%. Whoopi Goldberg’s attempt to play down this infamous case is shockingly unhelpful. Women or girls who are forced to have sex against their will should not need to categorise the assault or rate it in terms of seriousness. There must be no such thing as a rape-rape, a rape-rape-rape or a proper rape. It would absolutely deter victims from reporting their crime.

The Sexual Offences Act 2003 in this country is simple. A person is guilty of rape if i) he acts intentionally, ii) if the victim does not consent to the act and iii) if the person does not reasonably believe that the victim consents. If the victim is under 16 and the perpetrator does not reasonably believe she is over 16, it is always rape. Polanski’s victim told a jury she said “no” and “stop” repeatedly and told him she wanted to go home.

There are no exceptions in the law for being drunk, wearing makeup, a short skirt or being assaulted by a talented artist. Rape is rape is rape. Whoopi Goldberg should think before she speaks.

Sometimes saying things twice makes them better.

It worked for Duran Duran. And Couscous.

Not Whoopi though. She’s a doosh-doosh.

I guess my response to Whoopi would be "the guy raped a young girl, who cares how it's worded?" He admited to having sex with her. She was 13 and said no. Sounds like rape to me no matter what it was plea bargained down to. Nothing more needs to be said. Why does Whoopi feel the need to have it phrased correctly?

This has confused me, too.

He drugged and gave champagne to a 13 year old girl and then raped her. He fled the US to avoid prison time. I understand the victim doesn't want to relive the ordeal, but I'm sure that any other rape victim doesn't want to, either.

I don't get the movie industry people. Would they feel the same way if it had been their 13 year old daughter? What kind of precedence does it set if you flee the US and then the US just drops all charges? That's what they want is for him to go free. I think he needs to be prosecuted for the rape and any additional related charges and then add some charges for fleeing. He should spend the rest of his disgusting life in prison.

I have a 13 year old daughter right now and the whole thing makes me sick to think about.

As far as what the whole rest of the world supposedly thinks about 13-14 year old girls - Hollywood sure didn't agree with Michael Vicks view of dogs and the fact that he was brought up that way and didn't view them as pets. Hollywood thinks they are totally exempt from the rules everyone else has to follow.

I thought there was a statute of limitations on rape.

I'm NOT excusing what Polanski did in any way, shape or form but I'm just curious as to how he can be re-arrested for rape after all these years. It is my understanding that there was a plea bargain or whatever back in the '70's when the original crime was committed and he was sentenced for what he did to that poor little girl(I haven't done any real research on the case and I was only 4 or 5 when it happened so I do not remember it).

Is he being arrested for the rape or for fleeing the country to avoid serving his time? I completely understand if the arrest is for skipping out on jail time which would be treated the same as escaping from jail, I would think.

I agree that he should have to serve whatever time he was originally sentenced to PLUS any additional sentence that resulted from him skipping out on the original sentence.

He fled the country instead of doing his time. That's the problem. Convicted but did not serve the time.

Target girl, there is a statute of limitations, however he plead guilty and then fled the country BEFORE sentencing. He never was sentenced, so now he's facing the sentencing from that, along with skipping out of town... He needs to rot in jail. Sex with a 13 year old. Her mom should have been checked out too, because it sounds like she knew her daughter was going to be put in a precarious situation.

I agree he should do his time for the crime. It's ridiculous that celebrities are defending him, I don't know what Whoopi was thinking or smoking or drinking herself, when she made those stupid remarks but she should know better. She's she's got a daughter and a granddaughter and I am pretty sure she wouldn't think it was ok if it happened to them. All of us, and Hollywood, shouldn't care how great of a director or artist he is, he still raped a 13 year old. Anyone who tries to justify what he did is out of line. A 44 year old man with a 13 year old is never 'consensual'. He should rot!

I didn't know he was never sentenced in the original conviction. The whole situation makes a lot more sense to me now.

(I confess, most of my "knowledge" of the judicial system comes from watching "Law & Order" and "Judge Judy").

I wonder if the fact that he fled the country will have an effect on his ability to get any type of early parole or whatever. I sure hope it does, a negative effect.

Debra Winger is leading the charge to get Roman Polanski freed. This article has VERY strong language but sums up the case well and lists some of the idiot Hollywood celebrities who think his admitted rape of a child is no big deal. Does it surprise anyone that child molester Woody Allen is a Polanski defender? LOL.

It gets even more disgusting and I am not surprised I hate Woody Allen as well famous or not poor or rich, black or white or whatever your religion may be, as many may know by know when it comes to children I will fight to the death, there is never any excuse for any any any child abuse on any level , lock them all up for life in one dark room with no outside contact nothing but a simple bed and plain food and nothing else and they deserve nothing else end of story... disgusting. no peace here. Catherine
