Carry Concealed Weapon Certification Class

I just spend the weekend in class for 12+ hrs for the CCW certification. I never really gave it too much thought until my son did the website for a local guy that just got certified to to be an instructor.

He didn't charge the guy anything because he's a friend. The guy offered him a spot in the class for free and also he could bring me or my husband along too. I decided to go and it was wonderful. I had never shot any type of gun before nor did I even know the difference between a semi-automatic and a revolver.

Parts of the class were kind of boring but the instructor warned us prior and said that the state requires them to cover specific topics.

For Xmas I will be treating myself to a small revolver and continue to practice at a local shooting range.

I'm probably the last person in the world anyone would think would ever take this class. Tomorrow I'll go to the local sheriff's dept and turn in my paperwork along with the state application for the license. They will have to do a background check and fingerprinting. It then should take about a 4-6 weeks to receive the license.

Anyone else licensed or thinking about it?

DH and I have talked about it. Most of our friends and family are licensed. It's a big deal here in Texas - lots of licenses around here and probably lots of people without licenses. We have 3 firearms, but they stay in the house for personal protection. This reminds me that I need to talk to DH about actually signing up and taking the class. I completely support it.

Congrats on getting your license.

Good for you!!

I got my pistol permit (concealed carry) many years ago. I carry a 9mm with me every day. Not that I ever plan on using it.....you just never know these days. Makes me feel safer knowing I have it and I can use it if the need arises. Dh put in a shooting range on our property shortly after we moved in 9 years ago.....we go out several times a month to practice.

Good for you, for taking that class! Gun safety and instructions are a must! ;-) Even if you don't own a handgun, or want one, I still think it is a good idea for everybody to know how to handle a gun, and know about gun safety and the different types/calibers of different guns.

Congrats!!

I have not shot a gun in over 15 years, but thanks to an old boyfriend, I am familiar with firearms enough so that I am comfortable using them if necessary.

Kudos to you!!

Good for you I say I am going to do the same when I get a job again. Here in Oregon it's $80 for the class and permit combo. That's cheap but it's the gun that's going to cost me. Do they make Pink revolvers? lol

I was going to, and then I found out I was pregnant. Then again, I live in an open-carry state, and typically, if I feel the need to be armed it's when we're hiking in the middle of nowhere, so I guess it can wait.

I don't have a permit to carry but I do have a hand gun that I know how to use and have no fear of using it if the need should arrise. And, if I ever felt the need to carry it...permit or not....I'd rather be safe than sorry...for not having it when needed. And there have been times I did carry it in my car.
