We haven't taken the little one out trick or treating but this year i need to find her an Annie costume, she's in love with the movie!

Last year the older kids were zombies, not sure what we're doing this year, maybe zombies again, they seemed to enjoy it.

My youngest is in 7th grade and this will probably be her last year for trick-or-treating.

She's decided to be a "nerd". She got this goofy pair of black 3-D glasses a while back. She popped the lenses out and thought the glasses were so funny she is basing her costume around them! She'll add white tape to them, I went through our pile of clothes that we're getting ready to donate and pulled out a pair of jeans that are a little too big that she can hike up and found a horizontally striped shirt. I ordered a pair of rainbow suspenders online. I think she said she was adding a hat of some sort and she's done.

I'm happy, too, because it's gotten cold lately and with jeans & a long sleeved shirt, she should be comfortable. If it gets colder by Halloween, she can add under armour underneath and be warm.

My son is going to be a gladiator - horribly expensive, but one of his last years to dress up, I'm sure.

DH and I are going as vampires - I got our costumes at a garage sale - they were clean and nice and I paid $10 for the pair, then saw them online for $40 each. Last year we went as a gangster and flapper. We usually spend quite a bit, honestly, because I LOVE Halloween....

My oldest (who turned 10 today!!!!!!!!!! ) is going as Wednesday Addams and my little one is going as a dead bride. I got her a black wedding dress, and I'm making a bouquet of black roses (fake). I just need to find a rag doll we can decapitate for my oldest's outfit.

Oldest likes to look the part as he helps with the younger kids so he still dresses up but doesnt expect any candy. He's a undead angel i think it is, then we have a spiderman <black version> a jack sparrow, and a dragon thoguh we might have to rethink the dragon cause it's a thick puffy body suit type outfit and normally here you could almost wear shorts trick or treating

My son said no trick or treating for him--seems Jr High is to cool for that. He informs me that when he gets into high school it will be cool again(whatever!!!!). My 8 year old daughter always has great ideas. Last year she was a zombie bride and got her brother to be the groom. They looked so good family didn't even recognize them and the best part I got it all under $5. A lot of Freecycle and used Wags RR to buy makeup. I just paid cash for sons hat, some cheap plastic flowers for bouquet and bugs. She can NEVER be anything cute so this year she is going as a Zombie Punk Rocker. She even called her cousins to see if they wanted to go as a Zombie Band. No go, they are going as a puppy and Spiderman(which they have been the last 2 years--no imagination there, LOL. They are in it for the candy where as mine is in it for the costumes)

When my son didn't want to Trick or Treat anymore (he's 25 now) it was one of the saddest days of my life!

We have a bunch of costumes, dresses, Halloween wigs, skeleton hands and clothes, capes, etc so I put something together every year. I always go for the scary/sexy look.
I always buy makeup, false glittery lashes, jewelry, etc after the day for pennies on the dollar so we will always have plenty for ourselves and anyone else who might want to join us.

A young local talk show dj said that Halloween is an excuse for old women to dress young and sexy ---well we have to have some excuse and at least one day a year to do so, don't we? lol

Oh, that is a GREAT idea...... Hmmmm, how about a big sheet of the craft foam, like the kind you make a seat cushion out of, in about 1/2" or 1" thickness, cut it as a circle and spray paint it light tan. For a pat of butter, use a couple squares of the same foam, spray painted an off white/light yellow??? Syrup??? Hmm.......

I am liking this idea, Marilyn.

One year, my son was a banana. We used the foam stuff....it was so cute!!

Good Luck.

My DD wants to be an Indian and her BFF wants to be the Headless Horseman.....and they are going T or T'ing on Horseback.

I'm not sold on those ideas tho.

Oh, on the radio today, I heard the host talking about dressing in a black wet suit, and gluing Barbies or some kind of dolls all over yourself, and going as a "Chick Magnet" LOL.

One year a brother & sister came to elementary school with smartie candies taped to their jeans and a sign they wore that said "smartie pants"

That wouldn't be allowed in our school system because it wouldn't be PC!! lol Might hurt the feelings of a real nerd!

This year my 9 yr old dd will be a leopard (in black leggings, leopard print skirt and sweater, tail pinned on and ears on headband) and 11 yr old ds will be Ed Gein (flannel shirt, jeans and cap) [ds has Aspergers and Ed Gein is one of his "specialty interests" at the moment] In the past, dd has been a pink refrigerator (I made it out of a sweat suit and felt), Madeleine (I made the coat and bought the hat), Queequeg to ds's Moby Dick.... ds has been a giant squid, Edward Scissorhands, Joseph Merrick.... I've found I can make most costumes by starting with a sweat suit (good since it tends to be cold here in Western NY) and adding on tentacles, scissorhands (well, *that* wasn't too easy ;-) or whatever.

We are having a huge Halloween party at our home this year. We love Halloween and as old as our kids are we still trick or treat we will do that during the day, here in our town its a small town and so many people know each other especially how small our school district is. Me and my dh have been dressing up and walking with our kids since they were babies. Then at nite we are having a halloween party for about 45 people and its mix of our friends and our kids friends. Me and dh are being total hippies cannot wait. Halloween is not only for kids. For school my work I will be spongebob on friday on the 30th to walk in the kindergarten parade. Enjoy and do not eat too much candy. Peace. Catherine

My 8 year old son

is going as a washing machine. He saw it on family fun and loved it. (We couldn't convince his sister to be a giant box of TIDE though..)

Yeah, but she's in 7th grade - middle schoolers don't wear their costumes to school.

In elementary they can wear them for the parade and they don't allow weapons or scary, but they've never said anything about nerds!

I absolutely love Halloween! My last job I worked at the same place for several years and we were encouraged to dress for Halloween. I lived in the middle of a small town, so I just came home and got the candy ready and sat on the porch and waited for the kids. I enjoyed it as much as any of the kids. I now live out in the country with a 600 foot driveway, so we only get Treaters if a family member has a child still tricking. I sure miss all the fun, hope you folks that still get to participate enjoy!!!

My son is going as Super Mario. He is in 7th grade (junior high) and there was mention over the intercom about coming to school in costume.

He has a Halloween party to go to, so he got a costume.

It is great! He is going to look wonderful!

I saw a cute costume last year during our school parade. It was a girl dressed up as a referee with her eyes covered and she had a white cane. She was a blind referee!

Marilynk,

If you're chaperoning your kids during trick-or-treat, would you consider dressing in an "Aunt Jemima" fashion - with a cute little head-dress / tourbin on for effect? It might help underscore your son's cute idea of a pancake...

I am so impressed to hear when any mom (parent) takes their kids' ideas and makes them come to life - he'll look back and be so happy that you helped make him a pancake!

devinmom (who thinks so highly of her idea of accompanying the pancake as Aunt Jemima that she came out of lurker-dom to express it...)

Youngest DS has started taking Shaolin Kempo lessons a month or so ago and just got his orange belt. I expect if he goes out, he'll wear his gi....for several years now, he says he isn't going out but then changes his mind at the last minute. I insist he at least wear some sort of costume.

PS: Nice to "see" you devinmom! Now you know, no lurkers allowed!

I think I'll pass on the "black face"....Besides, DS is almost 12 and having me going to each house would probably embarrass him to death!

Youngest DS asked who Aunt Jemima was---I told him that she was married to Uncle Ben. He just rolled his eyes and walked away shaking his head!
