Flu Vaccine - Frustrated!

I have been trying to get our vaccines (seasonal not H1N1) and every place around here has run out. I've called several doctors, the health dept. and the local hospital and they're all out. Most said they had the Flu Mist, but no one in our family can have that because my youngest son is immuno-compromised, (hence why we need the vaccine). I've been trying to call his oncologist and can't get through, I'm thinking he may be our best bet for getting Tyler's vaccinated.

We would still need to get the rest of the family vaccinated. Sometimes he doesn't build an immune response to vaccines, so the safest bet is to have most of the people around him vaccinated. Honestly we'd probably just skip the vaccine if it weren't for him.

We're going to Evansville, In. this weekend and I'm temped to start calling places there to see if any one has the vaccine.

So is this happening everywhere? Is it just my area that has run out?

Several schools have been closed do to large numbers of the flu (seasonal or H1N1, I'm not sure which ) A lot of people are saying that they have H1N1, but have only had the in-office nasal swab which means it could be either.

I'm getting nervous sending him to school and even going to the family reunion this weekend, there will be over a hundred people hugging on the kids.

I'm not a germ-a-phobe by any means, but right now the risk of Tyler getting sick is a serious concern.

I can't wait until the H1N1 vaccine is released and we spend another couple weeks trying to track it down.

My kids we're supposed to be on a waiting list at the pediatrician's for both vaccines, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll get them in before anyone gets sick.

I'm doing some searches and I've a found few places in St. Louis offering vaccines (some free) I just hope it's not like it's been in my county. There been several places that were supposed to be giving out flu vaccines, but when the day came they had to cancel because either they didn't get the vaccines in or they ran out right away.

Our children got their regular seasonal flu shot with no problem at the pediatrician. I have also seen Target and Costco advertising certain dates that they are giving the shot. Also, have you tried CVS?

I don't think we have a CVS, I went so the site and clicked store finder and it said there were no locations in our area.

Several stores around here had dates that they were giving the shots a week or two ago, but I still thought we would be getting ours at the drs. office then. I found one place that is supposed to be giving them out here Monday. I called to be sure, they said they were still planning to give them out as long as they get a shipment in. Last Sat. my dh work was supposed to be giving them out, but they canceled.

I know there's CVS in Indiana, so maybe one of them will be giving them out this weekend.

Ya know, most of the flu vaccine clinics in St.Louis had really long lines (according to the news)
and you know at least some of those people are already sick. How much would it suck to catch the flu while waiting in line for the shot? That would probably be our luck.

Not a problem locally, but I have heard similar stories in other areas.

I hope you find someone who can help you soon.

Awww honey I feel so sorry for you. They have them in grocery stores here as well as the stores already mentioned. WIsh you were here as there is plenty of the vacination. Maybe if you did an online search of available vacine sites in your area it would help. Good luck.

Not a problem here so far. They were giving them out one day when I took son into Dr. He didn't want it but daughter asked for it. As far as the H1N1 I am not sure if I am going to get that one. Hope you are able to find some soon--may be worth a rode trip.

I am not interested in a flu vaccine, but I have seen signs everywhere here- pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. for flu shots. They even have drive-up places, where you don't even have to get out of your car to get them.

DH and I are supposed to be getting the flu vaccine at my job- our health insurer, BCBS, is actually giving us the shots (free) Hope we don't get cancelled. Good luck with your search; I can understand your concern, especially with your special circumstances.

I was trying to get my kids vaccinated and our base doesn't have them, 2 pediatrician offices don't have them and CVS/Walgreens you have to be 18 to get them. I have to call everyday at the peds office to see if they got them in I guess...Good Luck!

Took my son to his asthma doc last week and they were out. Our family physician is out, too. I need to do some research and find a place to get it as DS needs it.

Our local doctor had run out, but our local CVS, Walgreens, Target and other pharmacy stores had them. Seems those stores put in large orders and doctor's offices had ordered only small amounts.

They have plenty of seasonal shots in Maryland. My dh neuoro problems from viral encephalis and cancer so we are looking for the swine flu which is not here yet. I am a teacher so I am exposed to kids. Also if any one has had botox for health problems you can't get the shots within 2 weeks of each other.

Our news was reporting a shortage in our area also. I got my seasonal vaccine this week and I'm taking DD to get hers tomorrow. I took her to get the H1N1 injectible vaccine today.
