FORT COLLINS. Colo. - Authorities were trying to determine Thursday how to safely bring down a 6-year-old boy who reportedly clambered into his family's experimental balloon aircraft and floated away from home, sheriff's officials said.

The bizarre scene played out live on television and prompted fears that the mushroom-shaped balloon would crash. The balloon rotated slowly in the wind, tipping precariously at times.

The boy's family had been building an experimental aircraft that had a large helium balloon attached to it at their home, KUSA-TV reported. The aircraft, which resembled a flying saucer

I saw this but did not listen to it so I didn't know until I looked here at your post that it was the son from that kooky family.

So it looks like the baloon landed without the boy in it- Hopefully he is just hiding

I live 20 minutes away from this. Boy was not in the balloon. They *believe* there may have been a basket attached that was not there once it landed. No sign of the boy as of yet. They are searching for the boy along the route of the balloon currently. They are some unconfirmed reports of people in Hudson (near where the balloon went down) that they saw *something* fall from the balloon while it was in the sky. I have the story running live on my iphone right now. I REALLY hope the boy is at home hiding and ok

Hopefully its a Hoax and the boy is OK. According to this article "Aviation experts say the balloon was too small to have lifted a six year old boy and was not flying as if it was carrying a payload."

I think it was a prank played by the kids and they probably weren't that scared of getting in trouble or else they would not have said they saw their brother fall out later in their story.They are use to the attention of the media.
But how they kept a straight face,is beyond me?

If this turns out to be a hoax then they need to pay for all the police, search expenses, etc... This could have been such a tragedy.

Looks like these nutcases might end up facing some charges from local authorities. Who would call the local news before calling 911? Who would take their vomiting child on multiple TV shows and have the cameras follow him until he was laid to sleep in his bed at night? Weird.

I am hoping this crazy family finally makes the point reality shows with kids in them should be history!

I had a feeling it was a publicity stunt - ends up they were trying to get a reality show!
