Another Menopause Thread

Is anyone taking anything for menopause or perimenopause? Estroven, Gem Keep it Cool, Bioidenticals, etc?

Does it/do they work? Experiences and opinions appreciated!

Well I tried Estroven and then asked my doctor to switch me to soy after learning where estroven came from. I can't say I noticed any significant difference with either of them so I quit taking anything and just "toughed it out".

I too would love to know what has worked for this Peri-menopause. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe not all estroven, but Premarin stands for PREgnant MARes' urINe. I don't know if this is always the case, but I read too many horror stories about pregnant horses being kept in cages and not allowed to roam free so that their urine could be gathered.

Also (and keep in mind this is taken from Wikipedia ... not the most trustworthy source): "It is suggested that Premarin be used for the shortest period of time and at the smallest possible dose that is effective in alleviating symptoms because it can increase the risk of endometrial and breast cancers, heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and dementia."

I tried the two types of Remifemin, and estrovan, neither did anything for me. I took Prempro for about 6 months(til I hit my max on prescription coverage) and it worked like a dream. It alleviated all symptoms but caused my period to come and go at will with spotting in between. I have been off for about a month and a half and the symptoms have not returned nor has my period!!

I have that same screwy periods and all the Peri symptoms. What is prempro? I don't have the hot flashes yet as I have not gotten to the menopause stage only the peri. Does that have the estrogen risk?

Thanks

Even if ti works it costs $100 a month to drink that stuff. I never read about it in a medical writing just heard of it on the infomercial.

Prempro is estrogens with progestin. I think all this stuff has some risk. I am also in peri but the hot flashes were so bad I couldn't stand it anymore!!! I just can't believe that they haven't come back since I stopped taking it. Could I be done with this????!!!! That would be wonderful. My Mom was 49 and I'm going to be 49 next month.

I used Emerita Pro-gest progesterone cream for awhile. It provided some relief for hot flashes. I didn't have some of the other problems mentioned here though....

Pro-Gest Paraben Free by Emerita - JP-7003 - at The Vitamin Shoppe

Good luck! I wish I could tell you that it passes quickly, but not in my case!

The only thing I am dealing with as of now is the hot flashes. And from what I hear, they are pretty tame right now. I am dreading the full-blown thing, though. I haven't had a period in about 5 months.

Starting to deal with perimenopause. Still having my period, sometimes....lucky me, twice a month! Right now, I am not taking any medications. I have had some major issues with Hypothyroidism over the past year, so until I get my meds figured out for that, I don't want to start taking anything else. From my research, its fairly common for menopause/thyroid issues to go hand and hand...
