Smile Priceline or Hotwire hotel experiences? What seems best?

My husband is playing in a ProAm in Ms. in two weeks, and we need to get a hotel room. I am actually going to take off of work to go with him and watch him play. (Side note: David was told in April 2008 that he has cirrhosis of the liver and would die within the year if he didn't stop drinkiing. He was been sober now for a year and seven months! He was accepted back into the PGA in August of this year and this will be his first professional tournament since 1999..and the first since we've been married. I am so proud of him!) Since we're staying two nites, I want to get the cheapest rates I can, but I want to stay in a decent hotel. Has anyone used hotwire or priceline? When you make a bid price with Priceline, how low do you go? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks SO much! Have an awesome Sunday!

I've used hotwire. Thing is, I knew which hotel I was staying at. There was a hotel I wanted to stay at that had a couple of ammenities that no other hotel in the area had. So, I went looking on hotwire and matched up the ammenities to what I wanted and got the hotel I wante for about $50 less a night than the doing it direct. Thing is, you can't always do that because *most* hotels are the same and/or have the same ammenities. We knew the one we wanted did a wine and cheese party at night (others don't), so it was easy to see which one it was on hotwire.

Good luck

We have had great experiences with Hotwire. Over spring break, we stayed in a 4.5 Star hotel in Vegas for $84 a night! And, it was very last minute.

I've never used either one, but DH has. He said that he'll open up both and he'll see what the Hotwire price is and then he'll go into Priceline and try to beat it. And if they don't accept it, he'll go with the Hotwire price. The only problem is you don't know the hotel or exact location...it gives you a general area. Congrats to your husband on his time! I know you must be very proud of him. ~Lisa

I have used both. We have had good luck with bidding on Priceline. If you are looking for at least a three star, then Priceline would be a good option. I have used Hotwire when I haven't had the time to do the research for bidding!

BiddingForTravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum is the best place to research Priceline bids. You can see what others have bid in the various zones in the city you're looking at, what bids were accepted, and what hotels they were assigned.

We love Priceline. Love it.

Also look at Priceline and Hotwire Forum I have found priceline to be cheaper with hotels, but they are both good. Good luck!!

we use priceline all the time. We love it. We get rooms at Marriotts hiltons etc for 35-45$ per night. If you don't get the room at the price you want then re do it in 24hrs until you get what you want or go to hotwire. Another option, You can even find a hotel or two you want and call it directly. If its not busy the manager may be able to offer you a steeply discounted rate.
