I cracked my molar Saturday

It's been giving me problems for years now. It is the middle molar..broke in half as I chomped down on some pizza. I am waiting for the dentist to open at 9 so I can see if I can come in. Has anyone had this before ?" I am so worried about the cost..Although I do have to say I am happy we just got back on dental insurance at the beginning of Oct. ! How is that for timing ?

Just happened to me recently. There was no cavity, just broke. Cost about 3 grand to fix it. I had to have a crown put on it. Good luck. Ask your dentist if there are signs of grinding or clenching . My molars all have cracks because I clench my teeth when I sleep or am under stress. I now wear a mouth guard to help prevent anymore damage.

Wow, 3000.00 to fix a tooth???? That's crazy. I don't have dental insurance and I have three crowns, the last one put in a few years ago, and it was only $750.00. I can't imagine that much money for one tooth.

I had to have a gold cap because I clench my teeth. The other types won't hold up to the pressure. The cap alone was 2000. They also did a root canal at the same time so I wouldn't need to worry about that later on. There was no cavity, but because of the cracks was very sensitive.

UPDATE: Went to the dentist, he pulled the cracked part of my tooth away from the other part. Now my one molar is 1/4 gone. He is talking crown...but my insurance will not pay for it until I am on it for a year.

Ugh - that happened to me one time while I was waiting for insurance coverage. My dentist did the build up and put a temporary crown on. That held until insurance would pay for the permanent one.
