Have you held or gone to a cookie exchange?

I am a non stop holiday baker and I was thinking about holding a cookie exchange this year. What do people do after they bring the cookies? All I know about the parties is that you will bring a dozen cookies for each person that goes.

Did you like holding or going to the party?

What did you do there?

Was it worth holding/going?

I don't know what else to ask

TIA

I attend one every year and love them. we do it as a group everyone bakes at least 2 dozens cookies. Some people, the germ worriers, will pre divided their batches into baggies of 2 or 3. We do it to raise funds so we sell the decorated coffee cans or baskets. then you walk around and choose what kinds of cookies you want to take home.

We used to have one at work so we didn't really have time for much else besides picking up our cookies. I think usually (for parties held at home), everyone brings some extra cookies (6 or 12 or whatever, depending on how many people are attending) so everyone can sample them (along with coffee, tea, etc. provided by the hostess).

I think they're great especially for people who don't have a lot of time to bake. You can bake a large batch of one type of cookie and end up with an assortment without needing to buy a lot of different ingredients.

I went to one once and it was fun.

We all had to bring 3 dozen cookies - each dozen wrapped separately and include the recipe. We put them all on the table and drew numbers then went around and each picked one dozen at a time. I think the 3rd time we went around in reverse order so that last person didn't pick last every time.

We ate appetizers and drinks.

We also brought a wrapped white elephant gift and then drew numbers had did the white elephant gift exchange and we could steal it a max of 3 times.

That party was a lot of fun! I did not hold it, I attended it. I've often thought of holding one, but never have.

We would have one each year at our December bunco. Everyone brings as many batches as they want (usually 2-3 batches) and place them on the table. Then we all go around with a container (tray or tin, etc) and chose the cookies we want. Everyone takes as many as they brought. If you bring 2 dozen, you would take a total of 2 dozen. The best part is that you come home with a nice variety of cookies instead of just one or two types that you would have baked. My family loves when I go!

I have never been to one, but one idea would be to have some cut out cookies, frosting and candies, sprinkles, etc. available to decorate. Everyone would vote for the best cookie ( also could do, the prettiest, the funniest, etc.) and you could have a small gift for the winner..................maybe a cookie cutter!

My sister-in-law and I have hosted one for the past 3 years. So much fun! We ask everyone to bring 6 dozen cookies. We have dinner and play goofy Christmas games. We also have a gift exchange with those who want to participate. I put together a cookbook of all the recipes for guests to take home w/ them the night of the party (they email me their recipes prior to the party). I also decorate a small Christmas tree w/ cookie cutters and the guests take one as a party favor.

This is the website that I used when originally looking to host an exchange:
Cookie Exchange.com - The Original Cookie Swap Site! -- Est.1997

I have been to a couple. They were fun! The hostesses asked people to bring in enough copies of the recipes so everyone could have one. We had cookies, bars, brownies, fudge, cupcakes, etc, it was delicious. We all brought plastic containers and enough so that everyone could bring some home to their families.
There were around ten people and we had cocoa, tea, and coffee and ice cream too.
