Exclamation BREAKING NEWS: Deadly Shooting at Fort Hood, TX - 7 killed....

I just heard on the news there's been a deadly shooting at Fort Hood, TX. So far there are 7 killed and 30 injured. Not many details right now. Of course, Fort Hood is on lockdown. Two gunmen -- one caught and one, as of this typing, still on the loose.

Sorry, I don't have a link. Please keep these soldiers and families in your thoughts and prayers.

It's very sad..I'm sure in the long run, we will find out he "presented" many clues to others, and they were overlooked..Seems like that's always how it turns out..My thoughts are with all those families involved in any way..

Clues are already coming out. I can't believe I heard his cousin interviewed on tv and he actually said the shooter was a "good American". Go figure.

It appears we might find out why he did it for sure after all. The shooter is still alive.

It appears his "problem" was that he didn't want to go to war based on his religious beliefs. Too bad.

makes you wonder why he even joined in the first place?? It's not like if you were to join the local Rotary club only to be told "sorry, we won't be doing the Spaghetti nite fundraiser this year---we will be sending you to Iraq to fight in the war..." He joined the United States Army.

Senseless, stupid, arrogant, selfish act!

His relative is on the news. They, the family, is going to try to make it sound like he was a totally good guy, harrassed to the point of breaking. So, it wasn't really his fault, but the fault of the harrassers. He tried to do everything right.....

This is gonna get ugly.

What this could potentially lead to is frightening.

Major Malik Nadal Hasan is the murderer. It's a shame he's still alive. A practicing Muslim. Not converted (according to his cousin), but born Muslim. I don't understand why the military kept him in... he had poor ratings at Walter Reed. Also had questionable things posted on his computer 6 months ago. Don't know what those were... guess it will come out.

It's darn near impossible to get someone out unless they actually kill someone. Sadly, this person choose to kill more than one. Very sad.

I am glad he is alive. With his information, maybe they will be able to learn something from this. Perhaps, the families of those killed may know their loved one's deaths will prevent future murders like this.

Very sad day.

quote from cousin "he was trying to make everyone be fair and reasonable" in reference to the fact that he had apparently hired a lawyer to try to get out of the military and going to war. I am just getting pissed listening to him............the cousin that is. He was a "good American"

Right now there are so many things I would love to say, but for now all I will say is that everyone keep all the families of the victims, and of all military members and their families around the world in their prayers.

I'm glad he's still alive. Hopefully they will be able to find out why he did and prevent this from happening again.

My gut feeling is that just figuring out why he did it won't be a deterrent. I'd say that the core of his reason is based on "I don't like what the US government is doing." There's always going to be some whack job out there who doesn't like what the US government is doing, regardless of what it's doing.

I am curious, given his military role, to know what he would have been doing were he deployed. My friend that's a military MD (or rather, was a military MD - she's not currently serving) wouldn't have been on the front lines with a gun in her hand had she ever been deployed. She'd have been, at worst, in a MASH-type unit, and at best in a nice hospital-type facility somewhere. Given that this guy was a psychiatrist, I don't think he would have ever been called upon to aggressively shoot the enemy.

I will be interested to hear if his objection was that as a Muslim, he was not 'able' to shoot at other Muslims, or to patch up 'infidels' that fellow Muslims had been trying to kill. That would put a very interesting - and no doubt polarizing - spin on the matter.

Regardless, I am glad he is alive so he will have to face the music. Suicide bombers never have to do that. The potentially scary, scary downside will be if he did it for the reasons I speculated about above, and he becomes a martyr in the eyes of the Islamic world.
