Which would you buy: Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii?

If you haven't heard yet, Wii is coming out with a really neat new game, called "Epic Mickey" where you get to play Mickey Mouse, the OLD Mickey, from the 1930's. This is the mean, sneaky, mischievious Mickey most of you probably don't know about.... anyways, this game looks awesome, and I am NOT a Disney fan, but I really want this game. Not sure when it is coming out though. So it is only going to be for the Wii. It looks good enough for me to buy a Wii just for this game.

But also, what about the new Playstation 3? I really want one of those too, a system with the regular controller. *(I had a Wii and wasn't crazy about the controller or the nunchuck system). The PS3 has SO MANY great games!! It's a hard call.................which would you buy? What are some pros and cons of each? Any help is appreciated!

We already have a Wii but I would have prefered the PS3 but at the time it was very expensive. The Wii is more child friendly (they have lots of kids games) so if your buying it for someone over 18 I would say buy the PS3.

We have a PS2 and still use it

Thank you, Madhousenmich, I am thinking PS3 also...... the Wii does have tons of kid friendly games. That is what attracted me to this new Epic Mickey game---it definitely does NOT look like the other Wii games. It is darker, more spooky, and the whole game concept is different. It's a platform, like Mario Bros. was.

The PS3 is still more $$$ than the Wii. Plus, it has different GB sizes you can get--the more Gigs, the more $. I have no idea how many GB's I'd even need!

Any more advice, you guys? TIA!

I say a PS3, but then I've never played the Wii. We have a PS3 and an Xbox 360.

We have a Wii and Xbox 360. No one here wants a PS3. My DS 19 always plays the 360 the rest of us love the wii.

I used to work in the video game department at work and I would recommend the Wii for families, especially those with younger kids and non-gaming adults. It's easy to learn to use, very compact and most of the games are appropriate for all ages. I've only seen a handful of "M" rated games for the Wii so it's harder to accidentally buy something inappropriate.

I recommended the PS3 or Xbox 360 for those who actually want to play more involved games or games that are more mature in nature such as first-person shooter games or role playing games. These systems really appeal more to gamers and/or those who are more game savvy. Tons of "M" rated games available for these systems and not as many all age games. All age games are available for these systems just not as many as for Wii.

I'm not a hard core gamer, but if I was buying, I'd buy a PS3. I don't care for the graphics quality on the Wii, most of the games are too cartoony looking for my taste, and the selection of games doesn't really appeal to me. I do like the Mario games but I have those on my DS so I get my fix that way.

I have a PS2 and it gives me all I need in a system. The graphics are decent, the variety of games includes plenty that suit my taste and it wasn't that big of an investment. Granted, not many of the new games get released for it, but I really don't care too much, I'm not a "gotta have the brand new game" kind of gal.

My ultimate suggestion: Wait until the Mickey game comes out and then rent the Wii and that game together and try it out. I rented a Wii once and it was around $20 for a weekend. Long enough for to decide it wasn't for me so spending $20 saved me $200+

Thanks for all of your input and advice!!

I went ahead and bought the Playstation! But I didn't get the 3 because I looked at amazon at the games available, and wow, there just weren't that many. All of the neat games I've been dying to play over the years (like GTA and the Urbz) were only available for the PS2. The PS2 has TONS of games vs. the new PS3 for right now. And at amazon, I can get these PS2 games for very cheap through Amazon marketplace sellers, some as low as a couple of dollars only!

I figured the PS3 has these hard drives on them so you can save movies and music (which I'm not interested in), and also I think it's made more for HD tv's, like the new LCD's and Plasmas. Well, we don't have a new tv, we have a huge old fashioned CRT type. But it is BIG and just fine for what I need. I bought a used PS2 with everything, including memory card, and 2 games for only $60 SHIPPED! Just what I wanted. I don't care that it is used. And the 2 games I got are 2 I wanted----Crash Bandicoot and the first Grand Theft Auto.

The seller said this version of GTA is a rare one, with some kind of hot coffee thing going on on it. No idea what that hot coffee part is all about, but I love coffee, haha, so it sounded GOOD to me! Maybe I'm supposed to steal a car from a coffee shop or something? Hahaha.

If I'm not happy with my PS2, I can always turn around and auction it right back off on ebay, right? Thanks again you guys for your help. I'm glad I didn't go with the Wii. Surely that Epic Mickey game will one day come out for the PS2 or some other platform sooner or later. or maybe, after the game is released, it turns out to be really crappy. You never know! I'm excited, can't wait for the seller to hurry up and ship my PS2 to me!

I don't remember the original (1st GTA), but in San Andreas it's a cheat that allows you to watch the characters get busy after a date.

EDIT:
Come to think of it...I didn't even know you could get the first GTA on ps2. It came out on the first playstation.

GTA II was released on the first playstation and dreamcast.

The first one I remember playing on ps2 was GTA III.

The earlier ones may have been re-realesed on to ps2 but I don't remember. The only one I remember the coffee mod on was San Andreas which was released on ps2 (after Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) San Andreas is the 5th game not the 1st. I'd be happier with it than the first though, San Andreas rocks! The first GTA is like 12 years old, the games have gotten a lot better since.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Hot Coffee Cheats For Playstation 2

Trust me, there's not much to see.

It amazes me that there was such an uproar about this cheat. Basically it's just pixelated characters going through the motions. In a game that's about stealing, murder and drugs, It seems animated sex where you can't even see much wouldn't be a big deal.

Hell, you can hire a hooker and then kill her when you're done and take your money back. But they didn't release a new version to take that out.

Oh yeah, the big "sex" scene in GTA. We had to pull the game off the shelves and send it back to the distributer, post signs stating we weren't carrying it, field about 10 million questions about it, etc. What a gigantic tempest in a teapot that was.

The whole to-do just proves how screwed up our priorities are when it comes to censorship. Violence left, right and center is fine, but SEX is going to be the downfall of civilization. Same things happens with movies all the time. Viiolence of all kinds is fine but sex and/or nudity is horrible!

depends on the age of who is playing and what type of games they are into. I have teenagers and have the wii for them. They play all of the zelda, and mario games on it, as well as wii fit.

I also have a ps3. It has better graphics, but the games avaiable for it are more my husband's speed than my kids.

You can connect both to the internet, but you cna also watch blue ray movies on the ps3. Our ps3 came with one blue ray movie.

There are benefits to both but it depends what you are looking for, and as I said who is going ot use it, as well as what types of games they want it for.
