Thumbs up Great Bird News!

I love bird watching and, since I moved from Massachusetts, the thing I've missed the most has been the wide variety of song birds. Not too many here in Florida. And NO hummingbirds that I've ever seen despite having multiple feeders around my house.

That all changed about 20 minutes ago! I have a feeder hanging out back where I can see it from the computer room. I just happened to look up and thought there was some sort of weird butterfly at it. But it was a hummingbird!!!

I was beside myself and actually started screaming. I can't believe it. It's taken 5 years to get one here. What a great morning.

Now I'm getting ready to clean all the feeders and replace the fluid. I'm hoping the one that was out there will stick around and maybe tell its friends.

Cool! I live in MA and I've never been able to get hummingbirds to come to my feeders. Good for you!

I am in Ma. We have 3 regular hummingbirds that come eat out of our feeder. One is very brave when the feeder is low on fluid he actually flies up to your face when you go outside like "Hey lady, the feeders empty can you go fill it please?"

I was born and raised in Florida and had never seen one before I moved up here. I was so fasinated watching their little wings go so fast when I first saw them.

Terrible pictures but here he/she is. I had to take them through our front window so they're not very clear. Later I'll go outside and sit. Hopefully one will stop by. My husband said he saw two out there at the same time!

We had a hummingbird nest in one of our trees a few years ago.
We are in Kentucky.
DH (6ft.2in.) could look right into it.
I couldn't (5ft.1in.) see it well.
I can't remember if DH took any pictures.
We see quite a few hummingbirds in our neighborhood.

It definitely was a "she". Yes, the "he's" have the red ring around their necks.

I really miss "my" hummers this time of year. I can't wait till spring to put the feeders back out. I keep one outside both my kitchen windows and love watching them. I sure wish I could figure out where they nest though. That would be great to watch them hatch their young.

Grandpa always had feeders out and purple martin boxes up. the hummingbirds would dive bomb you when you went outside, not hit you but you could feel the air off them or hover in front of the front window where my grandmother would sit . but since grandpa passed and Grandma is in a home they dont come back anymore :-(
