For me, it's the tossed salad which I'll go all out for and is never the same. For the kids, it's the candied sweet potatoes.

Can you share your stuffing recipes on the food board. I'm in desperate need of something different - every year that's the one thing that does get thrown away. (It's not that it's bad, it's just ...... stuffing. Nothing memorable.)

Patmay you can put walnuts or pecans and cranberries in your bread stuffing; you can make rice stuffing or spinach stuffing. All yummy!

Actually, Anna, my preferred is with pecans and cranberries. Still doesn't get eaten. Yeah, we all eat a small serving ...... but I'm the only one who'll heat it up over the next day or two. I've tried wild rice ones, apple ones, etc. About the only stuffing that ever gets entirely eaten is the StoveTop, make in a pot, kind. ugh. I don't go there on Thanksgiving. Last year I don't think I bothered - however, I personally prefer stuffing to mashed potatoes/gravy.

If I could only choose one, it would be homemade mashed potatoes. But my favorite thing to do is combine my potatoes, turkey gravy, and dh's sage pecan dressing and mix it all up!

Yep, that's what our whole extended family loves: Stove Top stuffing with a few cranberries and pecans added to it.

Everybody loves the Stove Top -- including me

Stuffing - but not Stove Top.

Love the dressing and pecan pie.
Isn't the only difference that technically "stuffing" is cooked inside the bird and "dressing" is cooked outside the bird? In that case I love dressing and would NEVER eat stuffing lol.

I have no idea how she made them. I think she just took the stuffing, made them into a patty and cooked then in the oven. I really need to get the recipe for them....Although she might not want to give me her secret! LOL

I like these sweet potatoes that I saw on a Rice Krispies box many, many years ago.
Those and green jello salad (green jello, pineapple, cool whip, cottage cheese and mand. oranges) keep me happy.
Give me those two things along with fruit salad and I can do without the rest.
(OH, throw in a chess pie too)
Man I am hungry now!!!!

My favorite side is real mashed potatoes and gravy. Cute story......every Thanksgiving eve at work we throw together a Thanksgiving dinner for the employees. While at home I would only make homemade stuffing, but at work, I just grab some stovetop off the shelf and add real butter, broth and chopped celery and onion. Everyone raves it is the best stuffing they have even eaten and all beg for the recipe. I tell them it is my secret recipe and if I told them, I would have to kill them. ( I will never tell.)

I made this sweet potato casserole one year, probably will again this year. I got it off another board I go to.

CRUST
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
1 cup chopped nuts (pecans preferred)
1/3 stick butter -- melted

SWEET POTATO MIXTURE
3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 TBSP high quality bourbon - non-drinkers can use vanilla, but just use a teaspoon. .
2 eggs -- well beaten
1 stick butter -- ( 1/2 cup) melted

Preheat oven to 350°

Mix brown sugar, flour, nuts and butter in mixing bowl until crumbly - you know -that whole pastry thing? Do that.

Mix sweet potatoes, sugar, salt, vanilla, eggs and butter in your stand mixer or by hand if you're a hard core kitchen rebel. Pour mixture into buttered baking dish. Top with your crumbly nutty goodness sprinkled on top.

Bake for 30 minutes until GBD golden brown delicious

It's better if it has time to cool.

Stuffing is #1, no contest.

My mom and I are the biggest stuffing fans on the planet. I love stuffing so much that I'll take a big hunk of leftover stuffing right out of the fridge and eat it cold. The best part of stuffing is the part that sticks out of the bird's butt and gets all brown and crunchy-so yummy!!!

My mom's recipe is simple to, all that's in her stuffing is dry white bread, chicken broth, melted butter, eggs, onions, celery and poultry seasoning. She doesn't use exact quantities of anything, just mixes it together until it looks and tastes "right", then it goes in the bird.

I can't wait 'till Thanksgiving!

I love potato salad on Thanksgiving. I'd rather make ham and potato salad than turkey and dressing!

I do make an awesome dressing tho if I do say so myself. A secret to keep it extra moist, I add a can or two of cream of celery soup.

Sweet potato casserole. That is the only day I ever want it. But, seems no one else wants it. Hard to make a single serve.

Ok.............I finally got it. I'm sure you can add/delete ingredients to your own liking. I have no idea why, but I REALLY loved these. Maybe it was here "special touch" like most mom's have! LOL

These are her direct words.

It is very simple . I start with Stove Top Stuffing mix, (2 boxes) either chicken or turkey, and chop up a generous amount of onion and 2 or 3 stalks of celery, then I add 1 tbl. of poultry seasoning . When bringing the water to a boil, have the celery and onion in it. Then add the seasoning that comes with the stuffing mix + poultry seasoning. When it has cooked the amount of time listed on the box, I dump it in a dish, add a lightly beaten egg and form patties (saving some for in the bird) and put them on a greased cookie sheet or shallow pan. If they seem too dry to hold the patty form, either add another egg or a little milk. These can be made ahead of time and about 30-40 minutes before eating , put them in the oven for that amount of time. Adjust time for temp you have your oven set at . If it is set at 350, then it will take about 30-40 minutes. I like to boost the temp up to 400 for the last 10 minutes. Just play it by ear. It isn't as complicated as this implies because you start with a mix. I always make a real little one for testing to see if it is a wee bit crunchy on the outside.

I hate dressing. I can stand mine which is a cornbread dressing minus the sage (which I detest). My parents eat it but DH and the kids don't like dressing either.

My fave is the turkey. I eat white meat with lots of red wine vinegar. I know it's odd but it's something I started doing as a kid. DH thought I was nuts since he was a gravy guy but he's know a wine vinegar guy LOL If T Day isn't at our house, we bring our own bottle of vinegar for the turkey

My aunt makes pecan pie which is my and my DD's fave

You sound like the kind of person who likes sushi.

I've been craving sour things lately so this actually sounds kind of good.

No problem. To me it's nothing fancy but boy do they taste good to me. Like I said before, it's probably that "mom touch" that makes them taste so good. I "MIGHT" try and do them this year.
