Cash Back for Appliances

The government is supposed to be launching a Cash Back for Appliances promo similar to the Cash Back for Clunkers.

I know that all states were supposed to have a plan in place by Oct. 15th and the program was to begin this month or next month before Christmas.

I have tried searching and can't find any additional informational. Has anyone heard anything about this program?

I'm waiting to buy a new fridge.

I have no faith in how the Federal Government does things. The Cash for Clunkers cost us as taxpayers thousands of dollars for each vehicle and some of us did not even get a new car.

And instead of buying more fuel efficient vehicles many many people (especially in my county) simply traded in their old pickups for ones that hardly get better mileage.

Thank you Anna. I'm really looking for any later information on the program such as when it will actually be in effect. I believe each state will be making it's own rules.

Also, I am in total agreement about these programs not being effective and costing taxpayers money. However, since I am in the market for a new fridge and the government will be helping, I might as well take advantage of this offer.

Many will just be purchasing a new fridge and putting the old one in the garage so that defeats the energy savings. I don't plan on doing that. SCE has a program which will pay $50 for an old appliance and pick it up for free. I hope that is still in effect by the time the Cash for Appliances is operational.

And now, for the rest of the story:

Data show the overall average fuel economy for the clunker trade-ins was 15.8 mpg combined rating, and the average for new vehicles purchased was 24.9 mpg.

The Toyota Corolla was the program's top seller.

Isn't it funny how different how different news agencies tell us completely different stories?

From experience, I would advise against buying an energy efficient dish washer. They get the rating by using less water and not heating the water. So, I have to run water thru the sink to prime the line with hot water (wastes hot water) and I generally have to run the dish washer twice or basically wash the dishes before putting them in the "dish" washer. I am about to ditch an $800 dishwasher.

I haven't heard of a government program offering rebates for appliances, but our local electricity/gas company offers rebates for updated appliances, windows, doors, heaters, etc. You may want to check w/your electric company.
Have fun picking out your new frige.

I initially heard about the government appliance rebate on the tv when they were doing the cash for clunkers, but haven't heard anymore about it.

I would think that you wouldn't get to keep the old one or sell it, the whole point is they pick it up and destroy it when you get your new appliance, like they did with cash for clunkers, they made it so they couldn't be used again. It would defeat the purpose of the program if they let you keep the old appliance or sell it.

Whoever said our Government is logical? Actually, this program does NOT require that your old appliance be picked up. So, many people will probably keep the old one plugged in their garage as a spare.

But I intend to call SCE when it goes into effect if they still have their offer of free pick-up and $50 for your old appliance.

That's great you don't have to turn in your old appliances like Cash for Clunkers! We could use a new clothes dryer, but they don't seem to be on the list.

I think, maybe, April?

I am not happy at all to see this, nor was I with the clunker program. I didn't need/want a new car, and I don't need/want a new appliance. As a matter of fact, I just had to replace my dryer. That is something you don't wait for an incentive, you get it when needed.

Chaps my hide! We had to get a new refrigerator when the old one bit the dust last Sept. Once again, we bought too soon. Same thing happened with our heat/air in 2008, the one year that the tax credit fell through the cracks and we weren't able to claim it on our taxes.

Thank you Forrest. This is exactly what I was looking for. I found this site which seems to give more accurate info regarding rebates for each state for those interested.
