If you have good credit you can make payments. I really don't know of anyone who gives away cars if that's what you're looking for.

The sad reality is if you can't afford to buy a car how will you pay for upkeep, insurance, major repairs (which are highly likely with a less expensive car)?
It might be more cost effective to use public transportation (many social service organizations will provide low income people with transit passes) or to carpool with someone who has a car. That way you can contribute for gas when you go somewhere.

Having a car is a blessing it's also a huge expense and unlike a home goes down in value.

excuse me? You are disabled, but yet you can perform major maintenance to a vehicle?
Do you work? If not, how come?

LOTS of disabled people utilize public transportation, LOTS of people have to plan their trips to CVS (or wherever).

I may sound catty, and it could be just because I deal with people who are trying to take advantage of a disability system---but, if you can't afford to buy for a car, you can't afford to have a car. Even a "free" car requires, tax, title and licensing fees, also upkeep (at least regular oil changes), and insurance.

Even people who aren't disabled and have a car have to plan their outings!

Sorry but I must agree with Marilyn. If you can perform major maintenance on a vehicle then get a job part time at least at an auto shop. Maybe you can work in exchange for a vehicle.

It's very disturbing to those of us who do whatever we can to make ends meet to hear that someone who is capable of working is saying they are disabled and so low income they're looking for a free car. The logical assumption is that the person receives some sort of assistance.

Better start entering car giveaways but hell even if you win one or Oprah gives you one you'll have to pay about 40% of the value in taxes.

Cars cost money even for people who can fix them. It's annoying to me that you would think someone would just give you a car.

I agree with the above. If you can't buy an inexpensive used beater car, I can't see where you can afford the taxes and insurance of any car at all. Cars are like puppies. The initial cost is nothing compared to what you will pay later. The saying " No puppy is free," applies to cars. Perhaps this link will be something you can afford?

cars are very expensive to maintain and keep insured, etc. I sometimes would welcome a bus pass.. I do know though, that in a huge city a bus is no big deal but here in the sticks, we have no busses or cabs. Try bartering for a car or look in a trading post type magazine.

I agree that if a person cannot afford to buy a car, that person cannot afford to maintain it. The OP did not say "major maintenance" - the phrase was "I can do repairs myself to save money". Yes, I realize there are scammers out there both online and IRL (I have dealt with more than a few) , but we do not know OP's entire situation.

Don't you have a pharmacy that would deliver to disabled people?

Remember, just because someone is Disabled doesn't mean they are physically disabled.

But I have to agree about getting things free just because you are disabled. Just because people are disabled it does not entitle them to free stuff. Walgreens will ship your medicine at no extra cost and I believe CVS will do the samething.

I'd like to have a free car too. I even messed up being able to get in on the stimulus since I bought, and paid for, mine 2 1/2 years ago. Silly me.

I'd like to have a free house too. Oh, I messed that up too, since I bought my house years ago and won't qualify for the stimulus. Silly me.

I'd like to have a free education. Oops, I paid for mine years ago. Silly me.

I'd like to have free utilities.

I'd like to have free groceries.

I'd like to have free clothes.

I'd like to have free child care.

I'd like to have free vacations.

I'd like to have a lot free, but I get and pay for, on my own, what I need and want.

Silly me.

Contact your health dept. or social service agency. Many counties have programs to help the disabled and elderly get rides to and from doctor appointments and for weekly shopping trips. Many pharmacies will ship meds for free.

I have to agree with everyone else that a vehicle is expensive to purchase and upkeep including insurance, etc.

Out here in California, a lot of disabled folks young and old utilize the services of Paratransit. I did a google search and the Atlanta area has such service. It's a simple procedure to sign up. Give them a call, obtain the paperwork, have your doctor fill it out, send it in and you will be issued a pass to use for your outings. Hence, each trip you take will cost you a minimum amount. i.e. $5.00 round trip within a 10 mi radius. My mother in law utilizes their services when I am not available and loves the door to door service. You can even pre-arrange their services weekly, daily, etc. Give it a try.

Best of Luck.

If you're in North Fulton county, you may want to check out NFCC...they may be able to offer you some assistance, but I'm sure they won't be able to provide you with a free vehicle. ~Lisa

Don't know if your a Veteran or not, but we recently donated an Oldsmobile my husband had to www.helpveterans.com. They may be able to help if you are.
Other than that, I'm not sure.

If you are truly in need you might want to try a local church if you are involved. I know our church tries to help people out when then can. I believe that there are also programs available for people who can't pick up their own medicine. I think what all the posters are trying to say is that there is a big difference between need and want...I know public transportation in Atlanta can be tricky, and some places are better than others, but if you can't afford a car, keeping one up is really going to be a problem. If you are looking for a cheap car, you could see if there are any up for auction or look in autotrader to see what is out there. Even ebay auctions cars.

Weird post. "I'm disabled and I'd like a free car to get around". Huh?
