Have you read the book by Natalie Holloway's mom ? She said in hindsight, she wished upon wished upon wish that she had gotten Natalie international service. I think it is a good idea but do not know how to get it instated..good luck !

I have a need for an international cell phone myself...although what I'm really looking for is a temporary service (about 2 months) as I'm not normally out of the country but will be for most of January and February. Also considering some kind of mobile device with internet access. Does anyone have any ideas on freer's question - and my twist? ![]() cj/

Freer hon that is a excellent question and as cubmom said about Natalie Halloway what a truly truly tragic story any helpful information about a international cell phone would be one of the best gifts you could give someone especially your child if you knew they were going far away. I will tell you my heart goes out to those parents who children dorm far away in colleges in case of an emergency just the thought of first having to get a plane ticket I would want to be there in a second. Hopefully someone on the boards can help anyone here who is in need of one.. Peace. Catherine

My blackberry for work has an International Plan - works great most places- except Japan (not sure of the rest of Asia). I know our plan also works in South Africa (had co-workers go and their phones worked). I don't know the cost of my plan since the company pays the bill. My phone is through AT&T. When we travel to Japan there are a couple of loaner phones that you can check out and use. I would go to my provider and talk about where your DS is traveling and see what they offer. Also, if you don't have a passport you may want to get one. One of my frequent travelling companions recommends having your spouse or parent get one. Just in case you becomes ill or some other trouble occurs you already have what you need to leave the country. I know of two instances where someone got sick (both hospitilizations) on an international trip - luckily they were travelling with family but if not they could have been stuck in a strange place alone. |
