Flat screen tvs?

Dh says we want LCD, not plasma (Best Buy guy told him this). Okay fine. So which brands are best? We want something in the 32" range. I've seen good prices on brands I don't know, things like Dynex and Insignia.
We don't use the tv for gaming, just watching tv, dvds, and Wii Fit.
There was an Insignia tv in a hotel room we were in recently and dh said the pic wasn't that great (I didn't notice). Neither of us are into elelectronics and such and this will be a sizable purchase for us so what tips/reviews can y'all offer?
TIA,
MZ

TV prices have fallen drastically in the last year. stay away from lower ends like Dynex and Insignia. those are Best Buy brands. can't go wrong with Sony, Samsung, or Sharp. 32" er's can be found starting at 399. others to avoid are Westinghouse, Sansui, Emerson. lower ends are fine for about a year, then they start to fail. if you want drop dead quality, stick with the big 3.

And buy a 5 yr warranty or at least a 4 yr. I own a TV repair shop and see how many of the new TV's are coming in. We tell our customers to buy the extended warranty when they have to buy and new one and it is not to my benefit. The repair has to go to a factory authorized service center which I do not wish to be one of so I have no vested interest other than protecting the customer.

Some of my customers have come back to tell me that they were able to negotiate the cost of the TV and the warranty. Big box stores didn't use to do this, but with the economy the way it is, there are giving price breaks. If the TV that you buy does not look as good at home as it did in the store, take it back. The displays have a blue ray DVD player going thru them and adjustments are made. They may look great at the store, but don't settle if it is not as good athome.

And the off brand names like INsignia, Vizio, Emerson, Sceptre,, ones you never heard of are very low end and disposable. There are very few parts, if any, available to fix it when it breaks.

Check Consumer Reports, either the magazine or online. We got the 47" Vizio...one of the top rated in CR. Got it from Sams

We have 4 flat screens.

26" Samsung LCD
46" Samsung Plasma
52" Samsung Plasma
36" Dynex LCD

We like Samsung for flat screens. We have both Plasma and LCD. I like the picture better on our Plasma better than the LCD but they are really close. I feel the color pops just a tad more on the Plasma than it does on the LCD.

I also find that it depends how much light you have in the room. The room we have the Plasma in is darker than the rooms we have the LCDs in.

We play games and watch movies on all of them. My son has the Dynex in his room. We got it for him for Christmas last year and it has held up well. I think the picture is a bit grainy compared to the other TVs though.

I really like the LED TVs. The next one we get I think will be LED but when we bought the last one the price was a bit out of our range.

JMO, but I really hate the buzzing noise plasma TVs make, The last two TVs I bought came from craigslist from people who where upgrading to plasma. I paid $20 for a nice 27" and $40 for a nice 32", Happy with it so far!
