We don't have much, but we are sponsoring a family this year. The mother is a single mother of 3 boys, age 12,14 and 16. The mother has Lupus and cancer. Each of the boys have medical problems and miss a lot of school. We would like to get them a computer to help with their schoolwork. Any ideas where we could get the best deal or help with getting one? I will pay for the internet access for them. Thanks.

I'm partial to HP. A refurbished one could work out (and still carry warranty) for a lot less than a new one (and just as good)

I would make sure they don't have one first. Many of the families I know that are on/*need* assistance have a computer with internet already

Yeah, that's what I was thinking..and if they are disabled and miss school, sometimes they will have a computer to do homeschooling..it's a nice idea though..but I myself would not want to pay for a monthly hook up charge. That is just me though.

That's a good idea if they don't have one already. I like Toshibas myself. There should be good ones in the ads every week from now until Christmas.

I like my Toshiba. Right now there is a laptop at $299 @ Bestbuy.
