Where to eat in New York City?

Going Saturday for the Day and not sure if I should go Italian or Deli etc. Not interested in Tavern on the Green as I have been there and feel it's too much of a tourist trap.

If you are going with kids Mars2112 is good so is Jakyell and Hyde.
Dallas BBQ is good too (or so I have heard)
The Italian places in little italy are good, although I found some of them to be a little over priced

have a great trip

I haven't been to this restaurant in a while (always something different to try in NY), but last time I went, I really enjoyed Les Sans Culottes. They have a very nice prix fixe menu. Lunch is $16.50. Here's their Web Site:

I suggest the Bryant Park Grill. I was there last Saturday. It's a nice place to eat because all around the park there are vendors set up in tents, and there's an ice-skating rink and a huge lighted tree. The food is delicious, too. In spite of the rain, I had a great time there.

Chinatown~Wonton Garden on Motts Street. (This is the ONLY place that I like to eat at when I am in the city!!!)
Little Italy~La Bella Ferrara for great cookies and pastry and then to eat go up Mulberry and eat at the place on the corner of Mulberry and Grand. It is on the right hand side. Smaller place but GREAT authentic food.
Have you thought about Serendipity 3 Serendipity3 ? The frozen hot chocolate is amazing!! To avoid a wait call ahead. If you get there early or have to wait Dylans Candy Bar Dylan's Candy Bar is right on the corner.
If you are driving and coming in from Jersey take the Holland Tunnel entrance and stop by Carlos Bakery (Cake Boss on TLC) for the BEST cookies and cupcakes!! It is about 5 minutes from the tunnel entrance~if that.
HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!! I love the city and I love it at Christmas time.

Lightbulb 3 more ideas!

I always have fun at Ellen's Stardust Diner . They have singing wait staff. It is like an old-fashioned diner. I love it, but many of my friends think it is too noisy. (It is across the street from Mars2112.....now that was recommended by a poster above me, but I didn't like it much. So everyone will enjoy something different.)

I also think John's Pizza John's Pizzeria - Theater District - New York, NY is fun because it is fairly inexpensive, but the location is great. It is in the theatre district and it is located in an old church (the ceiling is an entire stained glass circular window).

The View at the top of the Marriott Marquis in midtown is beautiful. The View is an expensive restaurant, but one floor up! is a revolving cocktail lounge with a dinner and dessert buffet. I love it. They don't rush you, so enjoy just a drink or get one of the buffets. Fun, good food, and an incredible view.
