BlueSkeyes, is what you're feeling related to things that are happening in your life, such as relationship issues, financial problems or some other things?

I'm not trying to pry into your personal business, but if you are going through tough times, it's certainly normal to feel sad about it.

However, if things aren't too bad, and you find no joy in anything anyway, you may be clinically depressed. Can you talk to someone professionally? Or open up to a friend you trust? It might help.

Even though the holidays are supposed to be a fun and happy time, it isn't always for everyone. And I think we put the pressure on ourselves that we should be happy at Christmas. Who says? it is a very stressful time, especially for women, who are expected to bake, cook, arrange parties, decorate, buy and wrap giifts, and then clean up all the mess. Not always so fun.

Anyway, I just wanted to respond, and I hope you are feeling better soon.

I was just looking up SAD the other day. Seasonal affective disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyway it says "a mood disorder in which people who have normal mental health throughout most of the year experience depressive symptoms in the winter or, less frequently, in the summer, spring or autumn, repeatedly, year after year."

So I figured I don't have it since I know I am not of normal mental health during the rest of the year

I think the stress of so much to do in addition to normal every day stuff is really a lot worse around the holidays. Take a few minutes out of each day to unwind.

There is such a thing as the holiday blues. All the pressure to have the "perfect" holiday, etc.. If it is lingering then you should get it checked out.

Yes as Kathy said lots of people get the blues this time of year. Are you nostalgic? Are you feeling you're not doing all you should? Lonely because loved ones are far away? Too broke to buy presents? These and more are all valid reasons why people feel not so happy this time of year. If you can analyze what's bothering you it will be easier to get yourself feeling better.
Have you considered going to a free dinner to help serve or to hand out clothes or toys? That often helps me gain perspective on my own blessings.
I hope you feel better soon. I hope you find joy in the little things and I hope you surround yourself with things to help you feel happy. Sometimes when the "big" things bug me I concentrate on the little things: a cup of hot cocoa, how I look in my new jeans, my cat or dog doing something funny/stupid/naughty.
Maybe if you concentrate on the little things for a while it'll help you put the big ones in perspective.
I always say if a man in a concentration camp can find joy in a drop of rain hitting his nose then what do I have to be unhappy about?

I think you would be surprised to know how many people are "not so happy".

I don't know if that makes you feel any better, but you should know that you are definitely not alone.
