So I was taking out the garage and tripped

on my frozen electrical cord for my Christmas lights, fell the 3 or 4 steps off the porch, cord caught my ankle, landed on the plastic wastebasket and promptly sprained my ankle! Got a sore shoulder and skinned up knee too. Boy is my ankle swollen and turning a lovely shade. So far (it's been 5 hours now) it doesn't hurt very much. I've had a cold pack on it and had it elevated. First sprain I've ever had! Just had to vent!

WOW! You are a heck of a woman to be taking out a garage!
(I know you mean GARBAGE--at least I hope you do!)

You are probably going to be sore in the AM.

I sprained my ankle about a month ago (I was doing a room search, had stepped up on the bed to check the light fixture for contraband--stepped down and rolled my ankle. I just knew it was broken) ended up going to Urgent Care. Wasn't broken! The MD said to take 2 Aleve, instead of Motrin for pain and swelling. Said to take 2 aleve twice a day instead of 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours.
That did help. And a lot easier than trying to remember to take the Ibu!

FWIW--my ankle is still a little swelled and bruised (yeah--I did a bang up job of spraining it!)

Oops! lol Yes, I am wonder woman! So far it's not as creepy as when I dislocated my little toe and it was pointing in the opposite direction and I had to put it back in place by myself. That was creepy!

Ouch hope it's better soon. If it continues to swell or get more painful have it looked at.

What T's me off is that now days when I get hurt it's like an epic disaster. When I was younger I could take a spill and hop right up. Even if I got injured I could just shrug it off, sprained ankle?.. screw it I'll just limp. Even fairly major injuries didn't usually impede my day to day life. I'm only 32 but it seems to take much longer to recover than as a teen or kid. A while back I got this great idea to go skateboarding with ds, I use to quite a bit as a kid, but after a few falls I know I'll never be doing it again. I was sore for over a week, in the past I wouldn't have thought much of it and probably been fine by the next day.

Anyway good luck hope it gets better quick.

I'm 53 and hanging in there!!! It's midnight and it still doesn't really hurt. I'm hoping it stays that way!

Feel better. Just be careful because I sprain my ankle in hs and every now and then, I'll step the wrong way and sprain it again.

I'm glad you didn't break anything. Be careful! Move slowly nothing is important enough to hurt yourself.
