Cool We are having a blizzard

We are in the middle of a blizzard warning. We have 60 MPH winds, expecting 8-11" of snow (have about 6 inches so far on top of several hours of ice/sleet overnight), many people have already lost electricity and some of the water will be going out soon, no water after awhile because the pumps run off electricity. The turnpike is closed, the major interstate is closed, lots of other closed roads, the National Guard has been activated to rescue stranded motorists on the turnpike and interstate.

What I don't understand is people being on the roads? They have been asking people to stay home unless it is an emergency. There is a 20 car accident near here and 87 stranded vehicles in one town in addition to this accident and then the people stranded on the turnpike, a semi jacknifed blocking traffic in town.

We were only supposed to get 2-4" of snow, then that all changed this morning. If this storm is coming your way, please be ready for it.

We missed the big ice storm that was predicted for here, at least so far. Some snow is forecast for tomorrow. Hang in there Oklahoma and be safe!

Wow! Wish I was there. What part of Oklahoma are you in? Your post has brought back memories of a time long ago. We were traveling across country. We left Fort Smith, Arkansas about 7am with light snow sprinkles falling. It gradually started falling heavier and heavier making the roads very bad. Finally got to Henrietta, OK by noon and just had to get off the highway and get a room. We were snowed in a few days until we were eventually able to buy a set of chains.

But I thought it was very funny when I called Highway Patrol to find out when the roads would be cleared and was told that they were too poor to afford snow plows on their highways and that it never snowed there.

I hate to hear of that kinda snow. It has been raining here in North Alabama since just before dark, and the wind HOWLED all day. I can tell you right now if I get snowed in for days with the husband, one of us won't live thru it and at this point I don't even care which one.

We;re in Omaha, NE visiting for the holidays and the snow started Christmas Eve day and it's still snowing! There's over a foot of snow out there, and it looks like we can't even go to Christmas mass. I have never been shut in on Christmas. We'll make the best of it though!

One of my brothers lives in the Bray/Marlow area and my mom lives in Frederick. My dad passed away suddenly in October and this is my mom's first Christmas alone. My brother's family was supposed to be spending Christmas day with her but they can't get to her because of the roads. One of her neighbors called her earlier today to tell her to store some water because it was getting ready to be shut off. I grew up in Grady County in Oklahoma and this brings back many memories from my childhood.

I wish that we would get a good old Nor'Easter or Lake Effect storm. We had snow, then we had the frigid cold. Now, today it was 41 and rainy. We are supposed get something this week. I hope so. I want a nice storm where we are snowed in.

So did everyone make it throught the storm? We still have tons of snow down here in SW OKlahoma, even the sun coming out today didn't do too much. All church services are cancelled here in our town for tomorrow. At one point the governor called a state of emergency and shut down every interstate and turnpike in the entire state, they opened back up yesterday. Several of my friends were without electricity for up to 12 hours, but we never lost ours. I plan on watching the news at 10:00pm to find out what's going on next week, I was watching the 24 hour channel and they are showing snow again next week, possibly Tuesday, Wednesday and definately Thursday and Friday.

ballmom, I'll send you all our snow, LOL! I watched the weather today and we now have snow scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

wowitsdark, did you make it home? How long were you stranded?

There is still one town without water, when the electricity came back on, there was a surge and it messed up the pumps, they are having to have a fire department truck in water for the residents, that is in Cache, OK.

Doesn't anyone want to invite a big, old grown-up baby to come play in the snow?

We did, Penny. It was a long 24+ hours. We had to cut west a long ways out of our way since all roads leading N/S were to be shut down through tomorrow, and the E/W interstate was first priority. We went waaaay west in KS, then North to I-80, and when it opened headed back East to get home. The snow drifts are all the way to the tops of our windows! It's insane!

I like snow except for:
shoveling it
driving in it
it's cold
it's wet
slush
when it gets dirty the next day
Other than that I like it. It"s beautiful with all the snow on the trees, until it melts. I do like it when it's falling and I am home, stuck in the house and don't have to go anywhere. Of corse we still have water and electricty.

Thank you so much brownsugargirl. I'd love to build a fort or a snowman with you. I'd have to get some warm gloves.

I miss the snow so much. We never, ever, ever get any snow here. Sometimes when we've had a heavy rainstorm and it's clear out, I can see snow on the mountains in the far distance from my front yard. But I just can't touch it or throw a snowball at someone.

We ended up with 19 plus inches before the wind started whipping it around. Thank heavens DH and DS kept going out to snow blow or we would have had driveways like some of the folks here. Snow drifts from the top ot the garage all the way to the road, business' have snow drifts to the top of the doors! No travel advised for most of the state on Christmas eve and day. Interstates were closed (thank heavens for this as folks would have been trying to drive in it)
We had electricity but where the rest of my family lives they did not not off and on those 2 days due to the fact they got more sleet than we did. I'll take snow any day over the ice/sleet. Great snow to be building tunnels and snow forts in!
My DD is really mad that this did not happen when they were in school but on Christmas break! To be a kid again.

We got seven inches yesterday, and it looks like we may have another storm heading our way. It is supposed to start snowing Thursday night/Friday morning, and end sometime Sunday. Snow for at least 48 hours...

Sounds like the one we had over Christmas, and yes it did snow for about 48 hours.
