kitten for Christmas :)

Since my cat, Peaches, died over a year ago, I have been telling DH not to let me get another cat no matter how much I beg. I just didn't feel like I could go through the heartache of losing a pet again

But everytime I would see a kitten (even on tv!), I guess I would say how much I wanted another cat.

DH and I don't exchange presents, so I was surprised when we were at my in-laws Christmas eve that my SIL brought out a big box that she said was a present from DH while he handed me a card. Of course, I chastised him for buying me a gift. Well, the card had "I gotta be nuts" written as the signature along with a picture of a white kitten pasted inside. Believe it or not, it went right over my head -- I didn't catch on at all. Then at that exact moment, the flap on the box opened and a tiny white kitten walked out!!!

Of course, I just started crying and everybody was so thrilled that I was happy about the kitten.

Her name is Chloe. We have had her for 3 days now and except for when she is walking around the house exploring or playing, she spends every single minute sitting on either my lap or DH's. She is definitely a lap cat which is exactly what I wanted.

It was a wonderful Christmas.

We just took Chloe for her first vet visit (the SPCA gave us a certificate for this visit because they give you 10 days to return a kitten if it turns out to have any health problems).

It turns out she has a little respiratory problem that the vet said is very, very common with young kittens this time of year. She gave us some medicine to put in her food for a few weeks and said to keep an eye on her but she thinks Chloe will be just fine.

They all remembered her from the spaying they did on her last week and were all oohing and aahing over how adorable she is They said they rarely see a pure white kitten.

She is sitting on my chest (like it's a shelf!) right now purring while I'm typing this.

I am really glad DH didn't "obey" me when I told him I didn't want another cat

KellyJef I just have to ask, does your pure white kitty have blue eyes? If so did the vet tell you that pure white cats with one or 2 blue eyes are more likely to be deaf than other colors?

I wasn't sure if you were aware of this and thought maybe I should mention it to you incase you notice your kitty not paying attention when you call her or to other noises.

Not all white cats with blue eyes are deaf but there is a high percentage that are. I always make sure when I adopt one out I let the new owners know, some people don't and sometimes with really young kittens people don't notice it right away.

I am very happy you got a new kitty they are such a joy. Have fun and enjoy her and thank you for giving it a loving home.

LOL - no, Chloe doesn't have blue eyes. But we actually did have a pure white kitten with blue eyes (Daisy) a few years ago that DH found abandoned outside his plant one day so he bought it home. And she was deaf She ended up dying of bone cancer so she had a very tough time.

Actually, we no longer have a working fireplace in our house because of Daisy. We don't know how she did it, but she got herself caught behind the fireplace and we couldn't "talk" to her to lead her out of her predicament, so DH had to break through the stone fireplace to rescue her. Needless to say, she was not "white" by the time we got her out.

Aww, I'm sorry about your cat that died

It really is so difficult to go through the death of a pet, isn't it?

Hopefully you and I will both have many years with our new kittens
