Question S/O of the cat threads, orange tabbys question

are all orange tabbys male? I heard or read that somewhere. And are all calicos female?
Just curious if anyone has ever had a orange tabby that wasn't male, or a calico that wasn't female.
I have an orange tabby right now and he is all male.

Another weird thing I have found with cats is that my males are always way more affectionate to me, complete snuggle kitties, while the females I have had are more loners.

Here is my Chester, if I am sitting down, he is on me. This was one night when I was trying to sew. He was doing whatever he could to get me to hold him. He makes me hold him too, up in my arms. He isn't happy to just be on my lap. Talk about spoiled.

Yup, orange tabbies are usually male and calicos are usually female.

Here's my orange tabby Cuervo before he went on a diet, with my oldest ds.

What percious babies! I have four siblings and there are no two that even have similar personallities. My little tom-LESS is my favorite, but that is because he started out with such an independant attitude. It seems that it just depends on the individual cat as to whether they are a lap cat or not. All five of mine would follow me into a burning building, course they would all do something different when we got inside!

I find most females to be the one person type. That one person that they pick they love on beyond belief. If you aren't that girls special human she just seems put up with you. Males on the other hand I find love everybody. I also find them to be the bigger scaredy cats. I have one male that we laugh. When we have strangers come over he runs and hides like Stranger Danger run, Stranger Danger.

Yeah, that's Cuervo, he's scared of his own shadow. My female kitten likes to climb in my lap any time I'm sitting (including on the toilet ) But if someone goes and picks her up she is a very unhappy camper.

Hmm Chester loves just me. He wasn't supposed to be my kitty. My sister's cat had five kittens and I told her I wanted two, a grey one and an orange one. So she dropped all five here and said pick out which two you want and then get rid of the others. The one I picked I named PJ. He was my sweetie. I would sit and hold him all the time. Well one day Chester decided he was going to be the keeper and he started pushing PJ off my lap and making me hold him.
So my daughter took PJ to her house and I kept Chester.
He is completely my kitty. He is soo spoiled
So far he isn't a scaredy cat, he's just a little over a year old now. My last cat, Honey, was timid around strangers.

Most of the females we have had are standoffish. The grey kitty we kept is female and I really never even see her. She is more friendly to the kids, mostly my 11 year old daughter. I can go days where I never even see her.

Black and orange are both carried on the X chromosome, so calicos will be female unless there's an abnormality there. My parents have a lovely ginger girl, and I grew up with another one, but I think they're usually male. IME, male cats tend to be snuggle bugs, while females can be more standoffish, but I have a little tortie (calico, no white) who's the kindest, most tolerant creature I've met.

If you have some time, THE MESSYBEAST CAT RESOURCE ARCHIVE has a ton of neat info on cat genetics, and if you have even more time, there's a book called Cats Are Not Peas, which I've been wanting, and this thread just reminded me to order.

Cats genetics are so interesting! I love cats. We never had cats growing up because my sister was allergic to them, we always had dogs. Now I am completely a cat person, haven't had a dog in years. I love how cats can be so independent but also so affectionate.
