"The Road" Book and Film

My husband and I saw this movie a few days ago. I loved it. It was bleak and dark and sad but a story that needs to be considered.
Has anyone both read the book and seen the film? I am going to read it as soon as I can and was wondering how true to the book the film is.

I'm also a big fan of The Stand and Swan Song. I would love to see a film based on Swan Song and I thought The Stand was very true to the book. It's hard to pack it all in two hours the miniseries is the best route for something like Swan Song.

And with The Stand and Swan Song it wasn't so darn bleak.

I haven't seen The Road (or the previews, for that matter) - nor have I read the book. But I absolutely LOVE Swan Song. Wouldn't that make a great movie?

If you have a Kindle or similar device, I have the ebook for The Road if you want it...just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Thanks Mariah but I don't have a Kindle as of yet. I loved Swan Song so much and here is the trailer for The Road.

YouTube - The Road - Official Trailer [HD]

One of the big differences in the three is that with The Road all we know is that the Earth started quaking, most life died, and although the movie is set years after the catclysmic event the Earth continues to shake, trees continue to fall and lighteniing continues to start fires. There is no long explanation nor scenes depicting the actual events, what led up to them, whether there was any warning (it seems to me the implication was there was none) or what the cause was.
