You should pat yourself on the back for making your son's friend feel special. It will be a Christmas he probably will never forget. I'm sure he was touched by the gifts, but what meant most to him was being with your family in your home.

THAT is what Christmas is all about. He will remember it always. He may not remember the gifts (not many of us do) but he will definitely remember how wanted and loved he felt by his friends. Kudos to you and your son who was willing to give up some his gifts. Looks like you taught him the right things in life.

I did this for a friend of my sons... They live together and he spent christmas with us.... They had a blast though... I also bought them "together" things... Clothes soap, dish soap, Ramen noodles, body wash... It was really sweet!!

we adopted a elderly couple with no kids this past christmas. When we went to take them the gifts, I dressed as santa and they loved it. They usually dont do nothing for christmas since its just them and no kids or grandkids. It was great. they loved everything they got and was thrilled that "santa" came over to their house.

I hate that there has to be stores open on Holidays, too. But, this is the perfect of example of why we need them open. Good job on displaying the true spirit of Christmas!

What a great post! Many years ago my hubby had a friend from Maryland who was attending Maine Maritime Academy. We also became friends with several of his classmates. To make a very long story short, they would drive to our house (an hour drive), and spend most weekends with us, this went on for several years. One of them did not have any close family, and he spent several Thanksgivings and Christmas Days with us. We loved being able to share the holidays with him, and twenty five years later....we still think of him often and have fond memories of the times we shared! Last year my hubby invited a co-worker who had just transferred to our area from Texas to spend Christmas with us. He didn't know anyone, and had only been here a very short time. He was in all our family pictures. My sister in law kept teasing him that years from now...we would look at those pictures and wonder who he was! To me...that is what makes the holidays so special, being able to share all the things in life we have to be greatful for with those who may not be so lucky!

Or better yet - send a note to the store manager of the store you went to. That way you know the employees will see it (without it having to filter through the system).
