Let me start by saying I am 72 years old. I am very leery of people so do not trade or buy on line. (I know what your saying)The beginning of Dec I was reading garage sales and saw someone selling something I thought would be great little gifts and stocking stuffers as I am on a tight budget. I sent her a check for 22.00.
She said she was shipping them the next day. Needless to say never arrived she said it was probably slow holiday shipping and if I did not receive them she would replace. She said she shipped replacements but I have never received. She doesn't answer emails. What should I do? Any ideas ? I have her address and bank name and account number. I am now going to try to get phone number. I was thinking of calling local police dept. and see if there is any type agency in that state that could give advice. Also thinking of calling her if I can get number. What would you do? I don't want her to get away with it or hurt anymore people.

Are you talking about a trade made here on the mycoupons garage sale board? Or some other garage sale ad? If it was made on here on the garage sale board you can report the person to the bad traders list, the email is listed in the Tips of the Trade section of the board at the top. When did you order? When did she say she sent them. The mail is slow right now due to the combination of the holidays and snow/ice in various parts of the country.

I bought something at Staples and they didn't have the item in the store, they had to get it from a store in New York and it took 2 weeks for it to get to me and it was shipped the very next day of the purchase.

The first thing I would do is call my bank and ask for them to credit back the charges. They will send you a form to fill out and they will do the "detective" work. As long as you used your credit or debit card the payment went to an entity somewhere and they will take the money back from that entity. I have done this once with a magazine sub that I signed up for online that never came and no response from my emails or phone calls.

OP what about a mail fraud complaint with the post office...you sent her a check, she was supposed to mail you something, so she should be able to either prove she mailed it...or refund the money. I recall people on this board filing mail fraud complaints at the post office before over this type of thing.

This started Dec. 2 on the garage sale board. She is selling Yankee Candles. I just got off the phone with the Post Office and have filed a mail fraud complaint. I do 't know if anything will come of it but maybe they can scare her straight.

Has the check been cashed? I don't see that anywhere I may have overlooked it but if not you can stop payment. And make a report with bbb.org the Better Business Bureau. They will contact the person/company and ask for resolution. If no response or good or bad response it will be posted so others can look it up.

It is good that you went thru you post office, I had this same type thing happen to me, not on this board. When it was tracked down, the thief worked at my local post office. I am not trying to defend the person here, no idea who it was, just saying that there could be a lot of things going on. I would also contact my bank, and see what their policy is also. Just a few thoughts for you.

Checked with the bank can't do anything. Googled her and only get that she sells yankee candles thru my coupons. Still have to do BBB. Funny thing is she has been on the boards since 1999. (?)

I would get in touch with the police department in her area. Be ready to provide them with copies of the emails that you have sent along with your canceled check.

If she actually runs a business and, if she actually mailed your items, she'll have a receipt. If she didn't mail your items, she has committed a crime.

I once called the police regarding a home improvement contractor. The contractor was on my doorstep in the morning.

I think you shoudl tell us her name so we can all stop trading with her...

You are fortunate since typically home improvement is a civil matter, not a crime for the police to be involved with. I had a contractor who didn't start work by the contracted date. My calls were not returned for about two months. When they finally sent someone, he showed me his copy.....it had been altered for the time period work was to start. I had my copy and upon comparison, he could easily see how the change had been made and apologized (he was an employee and felt bad).

The police department told me to contact an attorney or the state attorney's office. They don't get involved in disputes of this nature. I simplly wanted the contract fulfilled and had to fight every inch of the way.

I don't think there's much you can do legally in a situation like this that won't cost you more than $22 in cash or time invested. I'm very sorry this happened to you. I'd be willing to send you a few Yankee candles that I have on hand as a random act of kindness, if you PM your home address to me.

The ladies here can get a little rabid at times though...so maybe sick them on her?!

Did you report this to anyone at MyCoupons? I don't see any feedback for maggie1216 (if it was her) on the feedback forum.

Julie (moderator) has started the ball rolling to see if there is anything we can do here at mycoupons - as far as geting your $$$ back, I don't think there is really anything we can do...it's a trade/buy at your own risk kind of thing...

But if you can PM Julie or any other Mod with the sellers name, we can at least take her trade posts off, and see about the other options that do include suspending or possibly banning.
