| "Spiffy" Casual Spiffy Casual is derived from the term Spiffy, meaning “cool”, neat, unique, or interesting and has it's (sometimes ironic) origins in the archaic English exclamation 'Spiffing!'. This suggests that one should dress up but keep it modern and trendy. A designer suit with a black shirt with or without tie or even something more creative such as mixing a T-Shirt with the suit, or wearing a very fashionable or designer jacket are all good. A lady might also want to consider a cocktail dress. As always, consider the event your are going to and who else may be attending. Simon Rademan Fashion Design Studio CC |

Here it is. dressforsuccess "spiffy casual" consists of a nice pantsuit or nice slacks and a conservative blouse. Remember even on a casual day, your colleagues will be evaluating your dress. |

I would say it probably means no jeans. Nice pair of slacks and a sweater. My personal opinion is if you write "spiffy casual" you are going to have people wearing lots of different things because as pointed out, everyone has a different opinion of what "spiffy" means!

What did you go with?? What were others wearing? DH and I went to a XMAS party last month, and the dress was "casual dinner attire". We saw every aspect of all of it. Some had jeans and a sweater, some had suits. Personally, I would think spiffy casual means no ball gowns for the ladies, and no suit and tie for the guys. A nice pair of dress slacks for both, and some nice accessories for the ladies. That's what I would wear, anyway.
