Florida is Sinking!

Well, not here but close. Good grief.

Quote:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Two eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 are blocked at Branch Forbes Road in Plant City, with some type of a road problem - possibly a sinkhole.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there is a "deficiency" in the road that is affecting the left and center lanes.

Officials are waiting for the Florida Department of Transportation to determine exactly what the problem is.

Troopers said they learned about the problem when truckers reported the road was lumpy and they felt their trucks sinking.

There is no actual hole in the area, but ground radar equipment has determined that something is happening about two-and-a-half feet below the road.
There's more. This is the biggest one in Frostproof. It's 40-50 yard across and 50 feet deep! BTW, not my photo. I wouldn't get within 5 miles of one of those. We're about 20 miles away from the nearest one and I'm still nervous.

Scary stuff.

Yep we are sinking here in FL there are sinkholes on 27 about 2 maybe 3 miles from my home in Lake Wales real scary stuff ! The Aquifer/water table has went down 60 feet because the farmers have had to pump water to save the oranges and strawberries and people are kvetching about it, yet if they dont save the crops the prices go up and we complain so its a darned if you do darned if you dont situation save the crops sinkholes dont save them high prices due to shortages. FL needs to fix these issues with the water and wells so houses dont sink in but the governement seems to be lacking in that regard among others. I cant wait to get out of here to a state that is more sane after my divorce.

Does the recent cold weather there have any effect on them? I don't recall hearing the connection when I lived down there but I was nervous the whole time.

I thought you had posted much the same about your previous state, you couldn't wait to get to FL, except your dh fully supported the move and all was good. Sorry things aren't working out.

Yeah, I don't know where I heard it, but I thought that much of Florida is actually below sea level and many parts were build up by bringing in fill......Disneyworld comes to mind. Boston is similar....

Scary stuff.

I have only one issue about VA where I grew up and lived for 43 yrs the cost of living but they have so much more in resources available. I had to come to FL because Mom got diagnosed with Cancer (now Alzheimers too) hospice says it wont be more than 3-4 months before we lose her and I am prepared for that was prepared to a point when I came last May. I was anxious for the change but sat back and looked at my life for the 3 months I was with Mom alone and realized how much happier I was without my husband and how a lot of my medical issues disappeared. I haven't posted much about whats been going on, (in part due to the drama that tends to ensue here when I post) I lived a lie for so long acting like it was all well it hasnt been for over 5 yrs. I am in a good place now in my life as long as its not with husband or in FL the list of things they dont have in resources readily available is staggering and hard to fathom. I am moving on to SC after April 15th to a wonderful place and life with friends and the most patient caring man in the world (to me at least he is) and wont have a lot of the worries I have had with soon to be ex.

Man I saw that more damage has been done in Frostproof when I came in from work, I had a client today who is in a hotel because her home is close to the sinkhole and may slide in. We have been utterly freezing here and the whole save the crops with water has affected the whole system, they need to find better ways to do this without destroying the water tables. It has finally warmed up I didnt need my sweater today.

We talked about this at work and Lake Wales was nothong but orange groves and they built it up on land intended soley for orange trees. I just noticed today they razed a area by me and are building a shopping center so much for the cows across the street they may go next.
