My mom's homemade beef soup, beef stew and her egg salad. Mine taste ok, but not like moms.

I miss my grandma's apple pie and apple struddle and her stuffed cabbage!

My other grandma would make Weaver's Chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and alphabet soup every Saturday when we went to visit her. Nothing fancy, but oh the memories.

pinto beans, fried taters, turnip greens and cornbread, or my mom's chicken and dumplings, or smothered venison steak, mashed potatoes, sawmill gravy and green beans.
All of the above have to be served w/ fresh tomatoes!
Good Grief I miss the South some days!

My grandma used to make roast with brown gravy and mashed potatoes. I loved it!

I guess if I had to choose something homemade and accessible today, it would be my mom's chimichangas. Oh my, are they good....

My moms and grandmothers and now mine for so many years homemade vegatable soup with pastina or any small pasta. Also love broccoli rabe with olive oil and garlic and homemade tomatoe sauce with freshly grounded tomatoes and olive oil and garlic and fresh basil. So easy so fresh so healthy. Enjoy your favorites foods life is too short. Peace. Catherine

Meatloaf, smashed potatos & gravy, grandma-style green beans (cooked with bacon bits and diced onion), fried ocra. Serious comfort food. Think I'm gonna make it Sunday.

It is really good. We tweaked it a bit. I found the recipe in my crock pot cookbook. I love cooking in a crock pot. Only one dirty pot and it's ready by dinner time.

Pizza Soup
2 cans stewed tomatoes undrained (14 1/2 oz each) with Italian seasonings
2 cups beef broth
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 small onion chopped
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper or to taste
1/2 pound hot turkey italian sausage
shredded mozzerella cheese

1. Combine tomatoes with juice, broth, mushrooms, onion, tomato paste, salt & pepper to crock pot.

2. Shape sausage into marble sized meatballs. Gently stir into soup mixture. Cover and cook on Low for 6-7 hours. Serve with cheese.

That is the written recipe. We made modifications. I used 2 cans of tomato paste and a whole carton of beef broth.
We omitted the mushrooms because we didn't have any.
I bought Italian sausage links so I just sliced and fried them. I also bought a pound of spicy hot pork sausage that I made into little meatballs and I fried those before adding them.
And to make it seem more like pizza we added some little bite sized pepperoni that I found at the store.
It seemed like it needed something to make it more hearty so I added some penne pasta I had. I just added it uncooked and it cooked pretty fast.
Served it with cheese on top. My kids loved it. It was the first thing they asked for when I said I was making a grocery list. I'm making it tomorrow.

It's really simple, rich and yummy!

12T. butter
12T. flour
4+ Cups liquid (I use 3 cups chicken broth and 1+ cup milk)
salt and white pepper to taste (I use white pepper cuz my girls won't eat anything if they see black pepper flakes )
1-2 chicken bouillion cubes
Chicken breast, 2+ cups, cooked and shredded
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed veggies

Melt butter in pan, add flour and stir until mixed. Let cook for a minute or two (gets rid of the floury taste). Whisk in liquid and stir until thickened. Add chicken, salt and pepper. Cook for a few minutes, then add the veggies. Cook until longest cooking veg is done. You may have to add more liquid as it cooks if it gets too thick, I just use more milk.

Same here. I think we just get so tired from cooking it, we don't want to eat it. I always enjoy when someone else does the cooking.

So do you just pour this over biscuits? 'Cause where's the biscuit? I was thinking this was just another name for chicken and dumplins...I don't see a dumplin/biscuit recipe...do you just use canned ones?

Woops, yeah...I just pour it over biscuits (I use canned for the convenience ) or you can pour it over mashed potatoes. My dad likes it over both.

My favorites would be my grandma's stuffed cabbage and this chicken stuff she made with dumplings and sour cream. (it was one of those dishes that always tasted better the next day) I miss all of her cooking now that she is gone
my favorite dish of mine would have to be baked chicken and mashed potatoes.

I cooked one of my favourite dinners tonight - Double Glazed Spiral Cut Ham. The brand isn't so important - I have a few favourites - Kirkland being one, but whichever one I can get from my list of acceptable brands thats on sale. Then I bake it for 1 1/2 - 2 hours face down on the rack in my biggest roasting pan with some water underneath. I glaze it every 30 minutes or so with Iron Chef brand Orange Sauce - think sweet, orange and spicy. After I've used up the entire bottle of Iron Chef glaze, then I make up the brown sugar packet the ham comes with and pour that on top and bake another 30 minutes or so with the cover off the roasting pan. Tonight we served it with steamed fingerling potatoes and some corn my parents had put up this summer (fresh sweet corn, shucked, put in a baggie with butter and salt - you microwave it for a minute or two, long enough to melt the butter and thats about it). Its also good with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or pierogies.
