Watch out !

Once in a great while, I like to have a Mc Donalds fish sandwich.

At the drive through today, their #11 combo was $4.99. The announced total was almost $6. I said something like, "oh no, #11" (tax should have been .30)

She came back with the same total. I said, no $4.99 plus tax is nowhere near $6.

Then I heard "oh did you want the medium size?" The sign only had one price. I weht to the window and ask why the difference in price. I was told they have medium and large. I said I ordered #11 for $4.99. The reply was -a sincere- they didn't know what size I wanted.

So instead of charging what was on the menu board, they chose the more expensive deal AND told me they didn't know what I wanted. When I again said, the sign said $4.99 they disclosed that corporate has told them to do this.

As I drove away, vowing to make my once in a while even further apart or non-existent, I wondered about the grand scheme. I believe people with multiple orders don't notice the higher charge. I believe they just pay.

This is awful marketing, pure and simple. Perhaps clever, but not right.

Beware........

Once in a great while I go through the drive-thru for a chicken sandwich for DD so I'm not the voice of experience on this. However, I seem to recall that in the past the order taker would ask if I wanted to upsize for only X amount more.
If this is indeed a new directive coming from corporate, it's pretty low IMHO. There's always the possibility it was a not very intelligent order taker trying to cover his rear because he wasn't paying attention.

I would think they would discount it or comp it most places would if something like this happens. If it happens anywhere again ask for the manager.

Copy this and write a quick note to corporate and cc the local one you went to. They need to know that either they are busted (lol) or that particular store needs to be set straight.

I went to Wendy's once through drive through and ordered the #1 - a single burger and fries. They asked if I wanted a medium. I said NO, assuming they were trying to upsize me...I ended up with a large! I guess medium is regular and large is large with no small. I don't go there often and wasn't familiar with the sizing. It was irritating!

Our Wendy's now prices everything as SMALL and you upsize to Medium or Large.

It's been quite a while since I went. I wonder if they got a bunch of complaints and maybe changed it. I'll have to go back and see...thanks for the info.

YOu know, I went to a McDs to buy a coffee last month, and it came to $1.89. I thought that was a bit much..I guessed it was because it was some prem. roast whatever. Now I get my coffee at Speedway and it is on sale now...79 cents, any size.

I have no idea if they have been told to do this or not, but the Burger King here does the same thing. We have been on a kick for the quarter pound double cheeseburger on the dollar menu, the H always wants fries. A couple days ago the cashier asked if I wanted the dollar menu fies, today she didn't ask and gave me the small menu fry which is more expensive. It does't bother me whether they ask or not on THIS order, but if we were getting combo's and they just upsized without asking it would be annoying.
