| Are you an ebay seller? I have a question.
I am very new to ebay so maybe you pros can help. I just sold a very expensive book and the person paid through paypal. I am under the understanding that paypal guarantees the funds. My question is whether or not to insure the book now because it will cost me $10 to do so. I also was not aware that paypal takes a fee from me for accepting his money. So I'm not making as much as I thought I was going to. Guess I should have learned more before delving in. My hubby said to insure it as you never know what can go wrong with the USPS. what do you guys do? Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

Haven't done ebay in a long time but yes, paypal takes a fee for accepting the money (just like a credit card company takes a fee from a merchant for accepting credit cards). If it's an expensive book, I wouldn't ship USPS...I haven't had luck with them and insurance (and I run an online business that ships out over 100 packages a day). I would go with UPS or Fedex. $100 insurance is included in the cost. Pay extra for signature confirmation. I would also take a photo of the book (if you haven't already) plus print out the auction page with selling price listed. You will need this *if* you need to file an insurance claim to prove value That's how I would do it.

In order to have Paypal protection as a seller you MUST get delivery confirmation for items under $250, and signature confirmation for items over $250. If a buyer claims they didn't receive the book and you have no proof of delivery, Paypal will give a no questions asked refund. Regarding insurance, you must make sure you package it well (bubble wrapped and sealed in a waterproof bag/box and clarify to the buyer what he must do if it arrives damaged. If the hit of a lost item is more than you could handle, insure it.... but make sure the buyer knows what he must do in case filing a claim is necessary. Without his cooperation the ins. will be worthless. |
