American Citizens in Haiti...

I keep seeing pleas from parents and now a Lynn University representative begging that the search for their loved ones continue in Haiti. Kind of asking for special treatment.

It is horrifically tragic what has happened in Haiti. There were thousands of lives lost. I'm sure the rescuers have hardly known where to start. Is one life more valuable than the other? They are doing the best they can, aren't they?

It must be excruciatingly painful for these loved ones, not knowing what has happened to their family members/friends. I can't even imagine. I have no idea how I would react.

But, in the face of this massive tragedy, do they have the right to expect special treatment??

just pondering.

I saw them last night. One father said he saw the US military martial itself when JFK Jr's plane went down, and he knows that if his family had been 'important' that the military would have made his daughter a priority. Sadly, he is probably right.

I understand their desparation and belief that the US gvt should first try to find missing Americans. I just don't know that it is realistic... But I guess being a squeaky wheel is the only thing they have the power to do.

I think more should be done to help them but I'm not there so I have no idea why they're making the decisions they are.
I wish they'd take them out in a military plane.

I feel very bad for the father but the first time I saw him I thought what more can we do? There were already rescue workers working day and night at the hotel where his daughter and many others were buried. Are the American lives worth more than the other people buried, no. I hope they were going where they either heard people trapped or the rescue dogs smelled people alive.

I agree. While I understand the anguish and frustration of these parents, I thought they were wrong to badmouth the rescuers the way they did

Those rescuers are going through hell -- plain and simple and don't deserve that kind of criticism

I agree. Their accusations that our military had just abandoned them was short-sighted, IMHO. They insisted that there were clear paths to the Hotel Montana and that if the military had cared that they would have been there. However, they were getting their information from people on the ground who were at the hotel and were working. I assume that a huge part of their frustration was with the fact that they believed (correctly? I have no clue) that the military had backhoes and things that would have made all the difference.

My hope - if their children are found and are deceased - is that they are able to ascertain that they died instantly and with no suffering. At least then they would not have to live with the "what if's" about whether they had gotten help there quickly enough.
