Long-time member would love advice regarding XM/Sirius Radio?

Hey all, long time no see! How are ya'll?

Well, tomorrow 1/28, I celebrate my 49th birthday. I can't believe when I first joined MyCoupons back in August of '97, I was pregnant and looking for formula and diaper coupons. Where did the time go?

This year, my husband and sons are buying me the XM/Sirius radio and I would love some advice on what's the best. I'm buying it specifically to listen to Rosie; I'm sure there are other shows as well, maybe some cooking shows? Can someone suggest a line up, or does it come in set packages?

I'd love to hear what you all think!

PS: It's so heartwarming, after all these years, to see my cookbook as a sticky on the LGC forums. I worked through some of my grief here and was lucky to have such supportive friends behind me. Still chokes me up a little, thinking of all we shared.

We had a 3 month trial of XM radio with a new vehicle.....there are SO many choices it is hard to narrow them down, but I loved the E Street Radio (all Bruce Springsteen), the top 20 pop and country channels and just the variety!! I never tried the 'talk' channels. BF thought it wasn't worth the money so we didn't subscribe--his vehicle, his choice, but I think it's great!!

Just wanted to say hi, too!! I remember you--and your recipes have become part of our family! My kids love 'Catt's' sticky chicken or mashed potatos or whatever.....

Hi Catt
Nice to meet you. I have XM on my DirectTV. I particularly enjoy listening to the "oldies" that is music from the 70s and 80s. There are quite a few of those. Also there's Willie's Place I think it's called they have Willie Nelson and his "cohorts". I do enjoy talk radio however I don't think I've listened to it as the XM is on my tv and I go to it when it's music I'm craving.

XM is not like cable TV where you subscribe to a package deal. With XM, you pay and get everything they have to offer. With money being so tight this past year, I had to let my subscription go and I miss it. I loved being able to listen to Elvis anytime.

Can I ask, about how much does it cost? I think it is something I'd like.

Would I have to be careful so my teenage DS doesn't hear things that aren't appropriate? I suspect talk shows can be more liberal on radio. Not that my DS has virgin ears but I can try. :-)

Also Catt, it's nice to "see" you here again. I love your sticky chicken! You probably don't "know" me as I do lurk a little bit but I always enjoyed your posts.

I hope you'll keep posting!!!

Hugs,

The website shows $12.95 per month. There used to be a one month discount if you subscribe for a year. There's a parental control click on the website but I don't know what/how they control. From past experience, I will never give XM my payment info as they use it the next time a bill is due. XM is a continuous service so unless you call to cancel it is automatically renewed and billed. Even if you don't pay the renewal bill the service continues and you will owe for service used.
